How did I let this happen?
I am having flashbacks to engineering school. Way back in the 70s when I was entirely too smart to let myself ever get caught up in the Housewife/domestic bullshit. Back when I knew MY children would be perfect because I commanded it and there would be no in-law politics because I wasn't gonna bother with the over-grown children we call husbands.
I fooled around and fell in love. My children are only as perfect as me. My resume looks even more pathetic as an executive housewife from the Ozzie and Harriet show. At least Harriet had the perfect children on her resume.
Even during my most passionate semesters of engineering school, I never thought domestics was a career to be degraded. I planned to pay my domestics enough to prove it. Turns out I don't like strangers in my underwear drawer and I never found a Mary Poppins to raise my children for me. That explains why I left my engineering career in 1995 to get my imperfect adolescents in line. It doesn't explain why I am still here 17 years later. Theoretically I am free to do private research. I have even done some research I am proud of. Alas, it was done in a housewife vacuum... I feel like my greatest expertise is on why family and business don't mix. I miss the social credibility of a paycheck with my - and only my name on it.
