How can I help my friend?

A friend of mine just lost his wife.  She died suddenly and she was in her fifties.  I would like to comfort him in a way that doesn't offend or hurt him.  Please give me some ideas on how to do this.  Chris

Offer a listening ear if wanted. Offer a meal or other gesture of support. Let him tell you what he needs. Initially it may be space because everything seems so overwhelming. Just being there unconditionally is huge.

If he is a Christian, I signed up to get an email every day for 365 days from griefshare. It really helped me.

He will need support and understanding when he is ready. Gerry is right about needing space in the early days of this grieving journey. I met a man in Arizona this winter who lost his wife almost 2 years ago. We helped each other so much. He would talk about her and I would talk about Art. Let him know you are there for him!! I have a colleague who lost his wife years ago. When I lost my wife three months ago, he sent me an email simply saying he was very sorry and he knew the pain because He lost his wife ( I didn\'t know this before the email). I contacted him then. Maybe you simply just introduce yourself and show your willingness to help. Tiger
