From the beginning, West Austin Caregivers was well received by the elder clients, their families, and volunteers. In 1978, service to senior adults was made possible through funding from grants and resulted in the creation of the Office on Aging. These senior services eventually developed to a point that the agency separated from Northwest Dallas County Service Center in 1982 to operate independently as the Office on Aging. The agency resulting from this merger was renamed the Northwest Dallas County Service Center and chartered to provide services including information and referral services, professional counseling and emergency assistance.
