HORRIBLE day thanks to my 'doctor'

22Jan13 12:20
I wrote this letter to my GP and it summarizes my feelings about this awful day.  I'm so beyond angry and frustrated.  Especially since I've been in agony since my 12-hour trip up to Boston on Jan 10th.  My pancreas is hurting so bad, I'm up to a 9 or higher.  I even wake up from a deep sleep and vomit in bed.  Can't eat solid food, etc.  All the normal symptoms of an episode coming on.   And my 'specialist' says THIS!!!!!
There should be penalties for treating patients this way.  I'm so upset.

Hey Dr. Gupta,
I just spoke with Dr. Brown (after leaving MULTIPLE messages again) and he basically seems to think all my problems are from acid reflux.  This in SPITE of the appointment I had with the ENT guy (Dr. Mallur) at BIDMC at his recommendation.  Dr. Mallur and the speech therapist were both there and they said very clearly they thought my voice problems were NOT from acid reflux, but rather from stress.  I told him that and he basically said that I was wrong and 'wasn't telling the truth'.  In other words, he thinks I'm lying.  Again.

He said the MRI with secretin came out normal.  Just that I have a fatty liver and slow/poor drainage from my pancreas (probably from previous surgeries).  SInce there are no structural abnormalities, he doesn't feel doing anything surgical will be worth the risk.  I agree, especially since I've had SOOO many and they've mostly been normal, which we've told him several times over the years.

I asked him what the next step was and he said since there wasn't evidence of anything wrong with my pancreas during the MRI, he didn't have a plan.  He kept insisting that the REAL problem was with my voice.  I'm so frustrated and upset right now.  I don't know what to do.  He seems ill prepared when we meet and then just disappears completely for months at a time.  If he refuses to admit that I have CP, this could affect my whole life.  My job, my health insurance, my disability insurance, my hope of any recovery.

You've always had my back.  What should I do?  I'm actually in tears right now and feeling very much alone.  Like he's just going to scrape me off since his test didn't show what he expected.  He totally doesn't even recall that he already ordered this test way back in 2010 with the same results (normal).  And he claims he never said I should go on a PICC line and TPN for 3-6 months.  Why would I lie?  How would I even know what to say?  I'm very lost and confused.  I've BEGGED my husband to call him since he believes Matt, but he's always working during Dr. Brown's office hours.

Sorry to sound so panciky but I am.  He also said there was NO way his computer could print out a blank script.  Remember I brought it in to show you and you agreed there was no medicine name on it?  He then tried to catch me in my 'lie' by saying, "well, if there was no name, how did your GP know what to send?"  I told him I had it written in my office visit notes that he was supposed to give me a scrip for Zantac.  Why does he think I'm lying?

Honestly, I'm so completely heartbroken with this latest phone call and is attitude, I wonder if it's worth keeping him on.  We've been seeing him for years with no progress.  Now, he doesn't even remember what he said, he won't let me record the sessions, he won't give me his notes for the visits.  I'm trapped.  What should I do?

Again, sorry but I'm lost.  Thank you always,  Robbin

Wow! that\'s a tuff one. A doctor you\'ve been going to for years. One thought is there any means of retaining a lawyer? Sometimes where medical is in the advertise call them for free. I don\'t know if the commercials are true. Or through disability. You definitely need a new doctor and start over. Younger one that is more up to date on medical issues. I start making some phone calls. Maybe the college, maybe they could advise you. So sorry you are facing this. Prayers your way. Brian

That is horrible..Some people go several years with all tests being normal & then all of a sudden one test comes back with something abnormal... Sometimes the only symptom is through a fecal test.

I agree with contacting an attorney.

Feel better soon...
