hoping old roof shingles arent asbestos

I too quickly said ok, to landlord knocking the other day, and asking me to clean up the yard while a new roof is being put on his building----on fourth bag I stated wondering if old roof was asbestos, instead of asphalt shingles.  In 1988, I even threw away a bucket of asbestos roofing tar, that my dad bought in 1970s.
On 4th bag, wondering---but still kept on putting the garbage away into 4 more bags, and do some more today.  Me cleaning up when sun goes down, at 830 to 11 last night, cause of my easy sunburn.  Amateurs working on roof shirtless, while I was out for a half hour in long sleeve shirt and a cap.
Will also get up around 3 in morning to tip garbage men about $15 to take away all this stuff.  Doing all this as favor for landlord being nice to me---but no going into adjacent yard for roofing shingles thrown there; too scared of fleas amid all the high weeds in that abandoned property.
At very least, its exercise, and maybe get me out of a rut.
