Hope in the World
Things have been pretty rough for my best friend in the last couple of years. She's stuck in what she finds unfufilling dead-end job with two-faced colleagues and snotty students who are so convinced that Mommy and Daddy's money can get them anything they want that they don't even try for good grades. Her husband, who is brilliant in his own right, and so very outgoing and friendly has been unable to find a job anywhere because the job market is so tight. But today, just now, I received a letter and he has a job interview! The university is so impressed with him that they flew him all the way to Brussels. Surely that must be a good sign right? Otherwise they'd just email him or phone him? I hope he gets the job. Even though it means she'll be an ocean away and I'll probably never see her again I want her to have her happiness with him. She wants to take some time off and work on her book and maybe have children. She'd be such a fantastic mother and he'd be such a good father. I want them to have a family of their own, and have careers they enjoy. So...even though things are bleak for me, I reckon there's hope in the world and maybe it's catching. A little light is pushing back the edges of the black hole beckoning me and for the moment I am happy and hopeful. I can only pray it lasts.
