Home on Tuesday
My last journal didn't tell the whole story of our trip to Ottawa. The day after we got here, Cevyn told me that she and Brendan had broken up. I was a bit confused as they seemed the same as ever.
It seems that Cevyn would like more children and Brendan doesn't. They discussed it at great length and decided that in the long term. they had differing expectations. So she and the girls will be moving out and Brendan will rent a 3 bedroom townhouse with 2 friends in the same complex. It isn't ideal but the girls will still have access to the pools and playground as their dad will be there.
I have never seem a more amicable breakup ever. Brendan is now sleeping in the basement but they spend time together and the twins have their mom and dad. I commented to Cevyn that it was hard to get my head around the fact that they are not together as outwardly. they look like a loving couple. She said that she was good friends with Brendan before they began dating and they don't see why they can't be good friends now. They have discussed which furniture goes and which stays. They will be living close to one another and will have an open door policy. She said she thinks they well be great coparents. Today they were outside sliding down the hills in back of their townhouse like a big happy family - which they really are. I am blown away by the maturity they are showing. putting the girls first.
I had coffee with Brendan's mom. We were both sad but understand. Neither of us want them to stay together if they are not happy. She was worried that Cevyn might move to a small town where rents are cheaper but opted to stay close by.
Both Brendan and Cevyn are wonderful caring people. We love them both.
So Joe has been chauffering Cevyn to appointments while I baby sat. The girs are chatting up a storm, most of which I don't understand. Some words come out very clearly like "Papa. out". Joe takes them outside to the playground a lot. We also get ordered to read! They love stories. It is just wonderful hearing new words every day. The most fun is when the say "whee" when the are sliding down a hill. Sierra now says "go whee".
I am sad that we have to leave them on Tuesday. I think they are going to miss us too.
Lisa, It has been hard these last few days. You are soooooooo missed. We are going to visit your grave tomorrow. I know you are proud of that wonderul girl you raised. But crap Lisa, she needs you now. And so do I. I miss you always and love you forever. Mummy

I believe in our culture we are used to so much drama and crisis around any kind of a break up and or change, that to witness this as you all are almost feels surreal in many ways? Observing these very young parents put the needs of their little family first and showing one another compassion and loving care in the midst. I have no doubt they will co-parent as best as they are able and the bumps they experience along the way they will work through.
As I said before I'm sure for Joe and for you this feels like such an abrupt change and it is for now. Allow yourself lots of wiggle room and grace to feel it fully, Marlene, as you are.
The twins sound precious and I have no doubt they will miss you as you will them. Etch them upon your hearts so you can take all that goodness back home.
Feeling your missing your Lisa who you could be sharing with and understanding that Cevyn does as well. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and what strong and brave women YOU each are in your own ways.
Cevyn, Brendan and the twins have a village who adore and love them and I have no doubt they will be leaning into this.
Gentle and loving care during another major life transition as this is what it is and I have discovered that my band width for these kinds of transitions is not what it used to be. It's something that we all talk about here with our soth when our loved ones are facing changes and challenges. I'm grateful you are journaling, Marlene, because in the writing and sharing the weight of what you are carrying I hope that it might in time feel a bit lighter. Maybe not now, yet as you see them navigate as a little family, perhaps...
With you and caring, Lisa's mummy from Douglas and me.
XO Joanie
love you my friend.....
Your granddaughter will be just fine. The girls will be just fine. My daughter is dealing with her girls still all alone but as you know I am not far away. My granddaughters are 13 and in middle school. they are getting that teenage thing on but Alyssa is dealing with each small fire and puts them. It sounds like Cevyn has a better deal with Brendan if they cannot live together at least the girls will see two happy parents instead of two angry parents.
Lisa will keep an eye on them.
hugs Penny
I know it's plan B, but plan B sounds like an awesome plan under the circumstances. The twins will grow up with both parents in their lives, and in a healthy, secure, respectful of each other, working together family dynamic. That's more than some "traditional" families can seem to do!
Peace, Love and Blessings to all~
I'm sorry, another hurt, but if its for the better, we deal for them.
Marlene, so sad to hear this news and yet how brave Cevyn is to set the right path for herself and her girls. Life is hard and we all have a right to be happy. I wish that for her and your great grandies. Who knows what the future will bring, it might just be a stumble. Lisa will be guiding them and I know you will be there for them always too. Sending you some peace tonight. Hugs, Kathy
It is wonderful to hear just how mature these two young people handle this break up! Instead of following the crowd and hating each other, they chose to create a world of love, understanding and compromise for the twins to grow up in. Enjoy your visit with the twins! xxx
