That’s why it’s heavy traffic towards and away from Bucharest, especially during the summer and on the weekends. While driving in Bucharest can be overwhelming for some, most Romanian cities are less busy and should be no issue for an experienced driver. Although most locals understand English, or at least there will be some younger people around willing to help, Romania has many things that are tied to its culture and are hard to understand when you’re a foreigner.
Brasov connects popular destinations in Transylvania via efficient buses and scenic trains. While in Brasov, take the time to explore a fortified church. Plan for an adventure in Bucegi Natural Park, or maybe just ride the cable car up for a nice and relaxing day trip. One of the best places to explore and discover Transylvania is from the city of Brasov.
Remote and tranquil, these areas offer travellers an experience now very rare in western Europe - exploring on foot a landscape barely changed since the Middle Ages. In early summer the mountain meadows are filled with wildflowers, including swathes of orchids, and horses and carts are carrying hay from first light. Turn back time and descend in to the dark ages on this tour of Dracula’s country. Medieval castles stand beside heavily fortified towns frozen in time. From ancient Byzantine churches in one town to Ottoman Mosques in the next you will be charmed by the country so raw and real right in front of you. We spend the whole day exploring this charming town together. This afternoon we discover the medieval parts of Brasov, including the Black Church, Rope Street and the Schei district as part of our guided tour. The following morning I learned more about the history of Sibiu on a 2-hour walking tour.

You’ll have a chance to travel by horse wagon and optional detours give you the opportunity to see more of Transylvania or rest your legs and drink in the views. First, we will visit Prejmer fortified church, a safe shelter for centuries for the local population against invaders. This trip is for travellers who are choosing Bucharest as their base for a holiday to Romania or Transylvania. The theme of the trip is a mixture of culture, history, nature, culinary attractions. While Sibiu is an excellent city to discover Transylvania, Brasov offers a more centralized location to visit major tourist highlights. Before returning to Sibiu we will stop at the Villa Vinea winery for a wine tasting of the area's finest wine. Our signature holiday to Transylvania is a 7-days trip, so you will have enough time to deeply explore Transylvania and Bucharest, at a leisurely pace. We designed the trip with overnights in Sibiu, Sighisoara and Brasov, so we don’t have to change too many hotels during our trip. Also, if you want to get a better taste of the Transylvanian countryside, we can arrange for you to stay in guesthouses located in some of Transylvania most picturesque villages.
There are a number of national parks that are popular with locals and tourists alike. Apuseni National Park, Fagaras Mountains, Bucegi Mountains, Piatra Craiului Mountains and National Park, and Retezat National Park are all among the most-visited places to enjoy views above the clouds. For snow sports or other winter activities, be sure to visit Poiana, just outside of Brasov. The best way to get a truly authentic experience is, of course, to make some local friends and get yourself an invite to their home. This may not be feasible if you’re only planning a short visit, though.
