hole in my heart :(
My dog had a bad heart for quite some time. But she still enjoyed going to mcdonalds, getting in my lap to give kisses to the workers there, or at the bank drive thru where she always got doggy treats, Giving us lots and lots of unconditional love and helping us through the stresses in out lives.
But her heart got worse over the years and her little body filled up with fluid. She was on meds but they were hard on her making her extremely thirsty all the time. But we put up with it because we loved her. Soon, she was turning down food and it didn't matter what we offered her, she just could not eat so we couldn't get the pills in her. This happened yesterday. I couldn't get a hold of my vet until after 9 pm last night. He said, you Have to get those pills into her so we pried her mouth open and got them into her that way but it was too little too late I think. She still went downhill. I don't think she was able to sleep in two nights because she would lay down, then immediately get up on her front legs again. She was soooo tired! I think when she layed down she was having trouble breathing.
My wife couldn't stand to see her suffering so we found an all night animal clinic about an hours drive from us and had her put to sleep. They put the catheter in her leg then we asked to say goodbye so the girl brought her out to us and she's looking at us with those big eyes as if to say, "what's going on, where they taking me? Why are you crying mama and dad"? We hugged her and cried before they took her away. My wife cried all night long and part of the day. Neither one of us slept much. Her less then me. I aqm crying as I write this. God I miss her so much! I said the serenity prayer over and over and it helped me some but God this is so tough.
We don't have much money ahead but really need another dog so we are shopping around. They are so expensive.
Thanks to everyone who sent hugs and condolances, much appreciated.
