hitting the mileage, but definitely not the pace
running shoes with orthopedic insoles-check; asthma inhaler-check; iPhone loaded with run-inspiring music-check; 90-minute run as scheduled on training calendar-check; acheiving minimum pace required to not get scooped up by the loser bus at the Chicago half--check box left blank----WTF is up with the heat and humidity in the Midwest?????? I'm hoping September is officially Fall and not the dog days of Summer!

I see your goal is to run a marathon. That is awsome! Dont forget your water!!
Thanks! I did a half marathon in Jan and was a frequent visitor of the water stations even then and it was 7 degrees that day :-) I\'m not sure \"run\" is the operative word here, but I\'m hopping to plod my way along until I reach the finish line! I appreciate the encouragment.
Friends that help support, and motivate you - check! Now suck it up and hit the pavement! But seriously... Was your 90 minute run the longest of the week? During my program, I never ran more than 60 minutes a day, except for the the long endurance runs every Saturday. I was able to run those in the morning, so that helped quite a bit with the temperatures. My other runs throughout the week were in the late afternoon, so I know what you mean by torture. I remember having a hard time breathing when it gets as hot as it has been lately. Not to mention the sting of the sweat when it gets in your eyes. After you get home, every piece of clothing is soaked, so you can\'t touch anything or sit down. Yuk! I think our dogs even avoided me! You have to think of these times as a tempering process. Believe it or not, you are getting mentally and physically stronger. I know that when I was running in my marathon, I kept thinking back on how much work I put into my training. I may not have reached my goal time, but not finishing was not an option. Hang in there! Cooler days are coming!
Thanks, Tim. Yeah, that was my long run for the week. Others during the week are 45 minutes to an hour. It was funny as I finished my run last night, the song \"The Climb\" by Miley Cyrus came on and I was getting all inspired as she sang \"I gotta keep on trying, gotta keep my head held high\" but then it got to the part where it said \"ain\'t about how fast I get there, ain\'t about what\'s waiting on the other side\" and I thought to myself, \"of course it matters.....if I can\'t keep up a jogging pace the \"recovery bus\" will pick me up and tote me off the course, and what\'s on the other side is a drink and some dry clothes!!!!! Thanks for the advice and encouragement.
