His birthday and miscellaneous odds and ends

Saturday is his birthday. His older daughter had surgery yesterday, which he went to, and when he got home last night he requested that I have our daughters text her. I did. She asked if she could come over here sometime and maybe get together with them to do something for his birthday. I said that would be great, although I wasn't really planning on doing anything--he's not likely to be here anyway. But, I figure it would be fantastic for the girls to get a chance to spend time together, with or without him, and I would love to see her feeling comfortable enough to come over whenever she is in the area. After I said this though, I got this horrible feeling that I better mention it to him because I wouldn't want him to freak out about me inviting her over. (Yep, he's like that)
He says to me that he may not want to spend his birthday here; after all he is going to be 43 so he should be old enough to choose where he wants to spend his birthday (and seriously, he has never spent it with us anyway). He also said that he may want to take his older daughter somewhere and spend time with just the two of them, since he hasn't had the opportunity to do that since she was young and he's not sure he is comfortable with us getting in the way of his relationship with her. These are her sisters!! And these are his children too, he doesn't have a relationship with them either. Just because he has lived with them since they were infants does not mean they have had the benefit of having a father either! I am going to text her myself today and invite her over any time she wants to come over to see her sisters. I am so sick of tiptoeing around his moods and his crazy behavior and in the process there are three young girls who are paying the price. It isn't fair. He is going to go through the roof that I am putting my nose in where it doesn't belong (his words), but you know what--I don't care!!
