Hip Diagnosis/Problem Update
Well had my appt with the hip specialist & I'm not sure how I feel exactly other then confused. He reconfirmed the Avascular Necrosis & I got to see all the x-rays. We talked abt how it can happen as a result of prednisone useage etc. etc. We're not doing hip replacement surgery but he explained abt how drug treatment such as Fosamax or any of the related family of drugs can stop, maybe rebuild & not cause the hip joint to fully collapse. I explained that Dr. Baillie has tried me on a few of the bone density rebuilding drugs & there was only one that I could take that did not upset my stomach & that one had no effect on my bone density at all. But the big question was - could it have been because I was still taking prednisone at the same time as the bone density builder & could it be maybe the prednisone was cancelling the bone density builder out. So the hip specialist is going to report back to Dr. Baillie(my rheumy) that we shd try the bone density drug treatment again. He feels confident that what has happened can be reversed. I guess what I'm confused abt is the fact I feel surgery now while I'm still reasonably young & fit would be easier then say however many yrs down the road when it would be that much harder on me & yet most people would be overjoyed at not having to have a surgery. Maybe I'm weird I don't know. On a diff note we've got health food stores here that carry a brand of supplements that are called "Greens" & I was looking at a catalogue on them & there is a bone builder one. Greens are highly recommended here by a lot of people & they are gluten free so I'm thinking hey why not give it a try. Anywho thats it for now. I thoroughly love & thank all of you that take time to check this out.

I can see how you would feel confused about all that! I always say \"if it\'s not one thing it\'s another.\" I am glad though that he says that what has happened can be reversed! I just hate to see you suffer while you are waiting! But then surgery wouldn\'t be a piece of cake either I am sure. i think the bone builder supplement is a good idea if you can handle it without any problems. Please keep us posted OK? hope you figure things out and feel better about it. xoxo, mechelle
I think the bone builder supplements are a good idea--I am on then also. I get the whole surgery thing too though.
If you can rebuild the bone it would be less traumatic than a replacement.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
