High Praise
It's high praise to say that someone is "genuine--the real thing." So idiotically I use the image of jewelry when I think of character: "Pure gold--14 karat---rings true---a diamond of the first water---a pearl." The damn qualities of beauty and rarity make gems precious within this old bod--, and by using the same fuckin' language to describe people, I must imply that real personal worth is equally beautiful, and equally rare. Yet, it's within most folk's grasp. Most agree on the valuable character traits: honesty, loyalty, openness, courage, humor, and the capactiy for love. I have never met anyone who doesn't have them, and everyone has them, and everyone can fuckin' have them. Imitations won't do. I am soooo very tired to worry about whether someone else's qualities are genuine. I damn well know what I admire and I have PLENTY to do polishing my own....

This really is a cool entry. I had to read it twice for it to really sink in. Yes we all do have the capacity to be genuine, but why do some choose to be imitations? Is it easier? Do we just settle and not think there will come a time when it will be required of us from another? Hum

what I admire right now is a fighter, there is fight in this, the good kind of fight. maybe fight is the wrong word.
I have a diamond from Chinatown, it\'s a nice one, it\'s at the bank, sleeping it\'s deep diamond sleep in it\'s safe little dark corner. The chinese man described the fire of it.
That is a word used to describe diamonds: fire. It\'s warmth, but not domesticated. It\'s power is always to be respected and it can cause tragic devastation of great proportion. But without fire, without the sun, we\'d die. I think I have chlorophyll in my veins. I am looking for kindred company who turn towards the fire.
