Hey

Hey Gang,

How is everyone's new year?   Mine has been okay,  I felt stressed at first.  I am trying to settle down and do that AA serenity prayer. (No I'm not an alcoholic,  I just like the prayer)    I want to accept the things I can change,  change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.   I am trying to do the first step.   I can't change what will happen in this country.  I will have to try to make the best of it and try to focus on me.    I did the same thing last year.  I made a list of things I wanted to do.  But I didn't end up doing hardly any of them.

One thing I think I did change was my feeling like I can't do things on my own.  I would stay home if other people decided not to go out to an event or place.   Now I do things on my own.  Like I went to the African-American museum on Thurs.   It was incredible  I'll try to post photos later.  I have the pics on my kindle.   It takes pretty good photos.   I couldn't see everything in the museum, but I will go back again.

I will do a pat myself on the back moment here.    I confess that I am afraid of elevators,  I try to avoid them when I can.  While I was at the African American museum, one part of the museum you have to take an elevator to the lower levels to start the tour.  It is a gigantic elevator,  the biggest one I've ever seen.  And it slowly goes down and it is a glass elevator.  It is traveling back in time, you see the years painted on the wall of the elevator shaft signifying what year you're traveling back to. We ended in the 1600's at the beginning of the slave trade.   Then you get to the other levels (there are 3 levels and you're 70 feet below the surface of the ground level)  by walking up ramps.

So I was, at first, scared to get into the elevator.  There was a large group going in and I was feeling okay.

It is snowing today, we're supposed to get around an inch.  It is the first one this year.  We had an ice storm a few weeks ago, but the temps rose by mid day so the ice melted.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Thanks for posting--this is a tough time of year for me: cold, dark, post holiday doldrums.
I like the AA slogans and sayings too--they are easy to apply to many situations. I like First Things First, Keep It Simple, and I do like the serenity prayer as well.
Anticipating that this will be a tough year for many reasons.

Wow I want to go see that one day too!! I'm going to wait awhile so baby can be older and really understands what we're looking at and I can explain things. Good for you for overcoming your fear of the elevator!

all is quiet here. All was quiet over holidays also. When no family left, single at this age, almost 70, and all couples around you, just not good combination with holidays is family stuff. Just how it is each year. I huddle cuddle with kitties...they are my life...Hope you all find what you are searching for in the New Year: find love, happiness and most of all some inner peace. Some thing that most folks these days, regardless of age seem to be missing any more.... Peace on earth//inner peace with in. Hugs
