Hemochromatosis diagnosis
Oct 2014: PCP ordered blood test to check iron levels because of restless leg syndrome
Oct 2014: Blood test results show elevated levels of iron. PCP thinks it may be hemochromatosis. Sends me to hematologist. Hemotologist asks if I drink a lot, wonders if I have scleroderma, and does more blood tests to see if my iron levels stay the same or get higher (they get higher). He then orders DNA test for HH.
Nov 2014: DNA test results show I have 2 copies of C282Y. Hemotologist prescribes a phlebotomy every other week for 3 to 6 months.
Dec 2014: I get 1st phlebotomy. I feel exhausted the first few days, but by day 3 I start to have more engery than I have in years.
