Help Is On The Way.

Tuesday, September 09, 2008 – 2:35 P.M. Anyone who has read many of my journals is aware that I do not like asking others for help. I avoid it at almost all costs. Because of recent medical problems, and the fact that I need to get a growing number of things completed within the next week, I found myself breaking this self-imposed rule yesterday.   I sent emails to my sister’s son and daughter, and their spouses, explaining my entire situation, and asked if any of them could help. Less that 20 minutes later, I received a reply from my niece’s husband saying that he would come help me with some of the computer related things on Monday.   When I got home from physical therapy today, my nephew’s wife was standing in the breezeway waiting for me. She said her work had brought her close to where I live, so she decided to stop by and see what she could do to help.   My sister’s side of the family is really pitching in and helping me. Her daughter emailed me to tell me what was in the works. Her opening words were, “Hooray for Jim asking for help!” She also said that after I get well, she wants to go to lunch with me. Maybe I have been too harsh in my criticisms of them.   Inspirational Quote: "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." -- J. Lubbock

It is true, most people want to help, they just don\'t know how till we voice the needs...congrats...that\'s a big step!

Thank you. It was very hard for me, but it was either that or go completely crazy. I didn\'t feel as though I had much of a choice, so I took a chance.

JanO is right, and not only that, not asking can make some people feel like they\'re not good enough, and that can have negative effects on relationships.

They may need you to teach the specifics on some things, but maybe not.

Yes, HOORAY that you asked for help.

This was a good choice for you.
It really must have been hard.
You are such an independent person.
What a pleasant surprise to find everyone ready to be so helpful to you.
Enjoy the moment...this is very special.

Acceptance. I struggle with this all the time. I\'m gonna give you my perspective. You are physically disabled and need others to sustain life. You need to get over the fear of asking for help at some point in your life, surely!
Isn\'t it so wonderful when you face a fear and it works out better than you could have imagined? Life is good sometimes.

I have issues with asking for help. It is great that you were able to finally ask. Fantastic that they are willing.
