Help Me
I have let myself fall into a hole. I am a 45 year old woman. I am a military veteran, I have a BA and am considered by most of my peers as an intelligent, successful woman. I started a second career four years ago as a high school English teacher. I was let go from my job last year due to missing too many days of work. I failed as a teacher. I stay at home and do not tend to my daily life until the last moment. I am on unemployment and live alone. I need to find my life and get back out there. I hate being this way!!!! I just stay home and isolate myself from anyone or anything that requires getting involved or activiely particiapting in life.

Ohhhh Valerie, I hate to hear that you are so down today. If you don\'t mind me asking, why did you miss so much work? Was that the beginning of your downfall? Did you like teaching? If I\'m being too noisey just tell me not to be a buttinski.

Hi there
I missed work originally due to my dad being hospitalized. He has 3 kinds of cancer. He requires constant care and attention. I then fell into a funk (depression, cycle of misery) and started to use my dad as an excuse to skip work. I just quit caring and did not want to deal with day to day life. I felt terribley guilty for letting down my students, but that did not stop me. I felt like I had failed myself and the school. I still feel that way. My dad is still very ill. I love teaching and I am a good teacher.
Hon I\'m sorry! That\'s tough! I\'ve been working out of my home for 3 years. My spouse doesn\'t want me working outside the home... Part of his abusive nature to control everything... I\'m planning my escape and the thought of looking for work makes me weak in the knees! It\'s tough... it\'s like every day you don\'t work you fall deeper into this pit of despair... which makes it harder and harder to get out there... just going to the store seems like a daunting chore at times...
Is part of your depression related to your father\'s illness? Have you worried his future, too? It sounds like you have a lot to deal with. I wish I could help!

I get it.
