HELLO MY FRIENDS

It has been forever since I've checked in here and just typing brings me back to all the kind  thoughts, helpful words and yes some playful flirting I have exchanged with many over the years.  I just check in on a few more frequent posters for the moment and I see some of the very same....those who accept and are content with themselves and their choices. Then there are those who do seem to have many disappointments yet do find some joy in the smallest of things.... a hug, a conversation that they struck up with another which has proven a very positive one for both concerned even simply taking time to enjoy a beautiful day (even when you dont believe there are any). Then there are a few that I do worry about and wish I could hug them out of it. A few who are constantly in search of something to make them look or feel better... who I believe are convinced they must not deserve to be happy or that God is completely ignoring.

In truth, I do believe I may have experienced all of these. Right now, I have recently had some very good cries (I must admit due to some very close similarities in a few movies that brought my memories to the surface) Ive also felt that loneliness, but cannot say too much as I have not really stepped up or ventured out. I am still working part time at the grocery store I have been with for over 27 years. I have actually decided to quit the end of this year. I will miss my coworkers and I really do enjoy interacting with the customers but since my insurance coverage ends with them, there is no reason for me to stay.  I have been listening to some other friends stewing about some issues with unfairness with pay (as well as other injustices I've witnessed over the years) and I've decided I do not have to put up with it. I've finally had enough.

I do think I will look for something else to do (work wise) part time. I need to be around people and it will become far too comfortable if I simply stay home and isolate myself. I am in the process of finding quotes and securing insurance from January 1, 2024 until August 31, 2024.  (Until Medicare kicks in from disability)  I extended my lease with my current apartment which I am quite content in (but realistically it is far too expensive so I am going to check into something more reasonable) and will be  here until November 1, 2024.

My sister is getting very bad with her dementia, but her family (Brother in law and Nephew)  are simply avoiding the problems. The problem is she and they are very stubborn and bull headed so when they try to get her to do what she should she balks and does as she pleases .  Hubby cooks and shops for them good healthy food and some snacks but she has decided she doesn't like veggies and seldom eats decent meals. She pests me and her neighbors to take her to the store. She will buy 3-4 half gallons of ice cream, at least 2 packs of big Hershey bars, 6 fresh doughnuts, and some danish and this is every week (sometimes more)  We don't think she's taking her medications (when Frank tries to remind her she ignores him as they don't really get along)

She forgets why she calls me, what day it is, and her stubbornness does also now come to an urgency as to when she realizes she needs something, she expects me (or others) to drop everything and take her that very minute. I have learned to step back and take a breath and do sometimes ignore her calls. 10 in one day.sometimes something I already told her 2 messages before. She does not want to be alone yet she wants to stay in her house, sometimes can't even turn on the tv. Her neighbor stopped me to tell me that now she is starting to wander. Last week she walked across to the neighbor's then to the end of that parking lot and had to ask how to get to her apt (which was actually within view of where she was) I do wish she wassafe, around others for some companionship and looking after, but this is not my responsibilty.

As I see how her family is not dealing with her problem I realize it was silly for me to put my BIL in charge of takind care of my last wishes. (which I never really did legally or on paper yet)  So now I am looking to plan on getting my own ducks in a row.  It may seem a bit morbid at times, but I do think once I have done it I will be content and find some relief. I have had well with PT for issues and now am working to improve a few more. Ultimately with the stress of work and having to deal with sis I have turned to some emotional eating (grabbing something quick and full of carbs rather than taking time to prepare the healthy stuff in my fridge.) Thus making the scale go up and down (sadly not enough of the later) so that does sometimes aggravate current problems.

It is funny.... as I look at my endless typing here, I realize, I cannot even stop in without dropping yet another book  ! HAHA  It is the ease I feel here, the urge to open up to share and my hope of TO LISTEN to all of you who want to share an update of your own. I'm sorry I've stayed away so long.

With love and hugs (and yes even a few gropes here and there. lol)   KIM

Hi, Kim. It's been a long time, but I see that you are hanging in there and coping, despite challenges. Good for you. I am also managing, with lots of prayer, and seeing some progress and answers. I have 5 people living in my house--I started a couple years ago, after my brother died, to search for one roommate. I wound up with Wayne, whose very ill daughter Beth is a friend of my daughter's. When he needed a cheap place to stay near Beth, I offered him a room. He's been here 2 years. Then my swim friend at the YMCA told me about a friend at her church who couldn't find housing, so it will be 2 years in December since Bonnie moved into my big downstairs room. Last August I got a call from a lifeguard at the Y, who is friends with missionaries to Bulgaria. A Bulgarian Free Methodist pastor's daughter, Nadezhda (Nadi for short), needed a cheap place to live near Spring Arbor University. I had one bedroom left, perfect for her. (My husband taught at SAU, so it's a familiar place for me.) She's a delightful girl. Then last April a girl I used to take to church as a child and who lived with me for 10 years, but who got married a year ago, needed a refuge from their toxic families, so they are sleeping on my couch since April 20. They are on the waiting list for a subsidized apartment. They qualify, as she was in special ed and he has Downs syndrome. There's a lot more going on around here, things like finding a neighbor to mow my lawn, but I will stop here. Life is eventful, but God is good and I am managing ok. Glad you are too.

Hello. It is so good to hear from you. Yours is a perfect example of what I would love to do...to be able to reach out and help others while inviting companionship and fellowship.
I believe our journey here is so much all the richer when shared with acquaintances and friends.

Hi Kim let me help you slip into something more comfortable to sit here and read....off the bra comes....do not need those here...LOL
so I am still my single self.....my ex had an issue last week called me to take her home from ER where she went with knee pain...so get herr home and grab walker from in house and chair so she can walk few steps sit for bit walk some more....ect....gets into the front foyer sits down I sit on stairs to second floor next to her and she gets up and almost falls over screaming in pain....said heard a pop....well turned out the tibia had chipped out a V shaped section.....we found out after 911 came took her to hospital different than first one....

her weight is the problem....,I just guess between 450-585lbs....I really have no clue what she weighs....but now she had surgery to insert screws and a plate in the bone under her knee cap...she is to have zero % weight on knee for six weeks.....so she is in hospital getting ready to go to rehab facility....what is bad is zero weight on knee means bed and her weight puts her at huge risk of bed soars,...pressure soars....

me on other hand I had reverse shoulder replacement surgery july 25th....so I see doc 9/11 a bit over six weeks after surgery to be released to do what ever I want with my arm....right now I am prob doing more than he would want....I life more than he said I could said couple pounds....but I use my arm way more....doing PT is challenging too but I am committed to going even with needing to use CC from now to the end of the six weeks they told me to go two times weekly....I am still broke....I did take a reverse mortgage on house and have blown thru almost $13K of the available money.....I get another $13K one year after the closing because it is a line of credit loan....I pull what I want and do not pay interest until pulled.....

got really bells and whistles Lazyboy recliner with some of it and had tree in back taken down....got everything out of the pawn shop....and tues I get cruise control put on my car I bought last black friday.....2019 chevy spark....I now have just over 38K miles on it....

I hope you find a job you like where you can be around people....seeing annieharts post today about her hubby getting security guard job at history museum I think you should try working at the art museum and give tours or be at the check in point where people can ask you questions.....that is something that would be low stress

I know what you mean by having something to do. If I didn't work, I would sit home and cry all the time. It is so lonely since my friends and relatives died. I got another client on Mondays so busy all day. Work Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It sure makes a difference when I stay home. The rest is good but too quiet!!!
Precious my cat saved me literally. If it weren't for them, I would not want to be here.
I paid for a dating site but they said there were inconsistancies from my old profile and they blocked me. But the money is gone anyway. Been dumped by 2 more guys I knew are real. I am romantically challenged!!!!!!!!!!
Also found out with the 3rd try that I cannot get credit or credit rating. What the heck!!! I have never defaulted-ever.
Take care and keep in touch. I am hoping and praying for things to get brighter some day. Hopefully soon!!!!

You are welcomed here anytime!

Your eating behavior is like any other addiction, in that it is triggered by underlying issues. For this reason, I high recommend OA. You can get a sponser who will be available to you by phone, when you get those cravings and she will talk you through it. It's totally free and I highly recommend. Here is their websight.

Here is a good description of how it works:

The face to face meetings work the best.

God Bless

Hello friend! Seems like everyone is finding life quite challenging at the moment. I'm sorry you're included it this group too. I can somewhat relate to your situation with your sister having dementia. It's incredibly difficult and emotionally draining. Not to mention it's 24/7. It doesn't help that you were Dave's caregiver for so long either. One of my closest and dearest friends developed early onset Alzheimer's and I was her sole caregiver for a couple of years. Fortunately, she wasn't stubborn, and she never fought me on anything.

No reason for you to stick around a job like that when you have other options. I agree with not isolating yourself. I'm sure you've thought about this already, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. How about volunteering somewhere? You'll meet people with common interests, and it can bring such inner joy.

Hang in there and keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hugs

Hi Kim, nice to hear from you!
I agree about the volunteering. Four years ago I never pictured myself being involved in my community like I am now. It took a lot of work on my self esteem and it’s been really rewarding. People who need help don’t judge you, they’re just really grateful for your time and support.
I miss your books lol. Stay in touch,J

It is so good to hear from all of you.

Bill... (may be TMI, but I can assure once in the comfort of my apt several unneeded neccessities do hit the floor. BIG NAUGHTY GRIN HERE) I am sorry to hear of Bebe's health issues and will pray for her recovery. It won't be easy and my concern is that she does not put too much on you. I do recall how hard it was with Dave . You need to concentrate on healing yourself. Shoulders are nothing to mess with. Keep on plugging with the PT as I am. Sounds like we need to hide the piggy bank from you and the refrigerator from me.

It's funny as we all do seem to have our addictions. MONEY, BOOZE, SEX, FOOD I have thought about OA but could not survive with absolutely no white flour or sugar. I have moments I stick so well to my plan, but my first instinct when something goes awry is to comfort with unhealthy option. I need to take advantage of resources I have at hand. I have 24/7 access to health coach but seldom reach out.

I have gotten more info and am finding resources to link me up with all I need to know. I'm still working on getting those ducks in a row though they are still all over the pond (Boomerang, there may be some over by you. LOL) There is a local non profit that was created by a young woman who worked at our store through her teen years. I am interested and think I will contact her., but I need to see what sort of income I will still need to go forward. I'm checking into income based housing (elligibility and wait lists) Whole deal with sis has me looking ahead .

Mary, I know all too well how much a fur baby can brighten your life. I miss mine terribly. I have days I feel abandoned, but I have pulled back from dating sites. I think if it is meant to be we may cross someone's path in some unexpected way. I wish you could see you are a kind, good special woman and friend to many and do not need any man to tell you that.
