He didn't get it.
Big no on the promotion.
I feel bad for H. He's playing it off like no big deal, but I know that if nothing else he feels like he wasted a lot of time, effort and money trying to promote with no payout. He says he doesn't want to try again for promotion when it comes up again. We'll see. It could be years before the chance arises again and as we all know - a lot can change in just a short amount of time.
In an effort to brainstorm solutions to deal with OW (he worked with her again last Friday) he is changing shifts and days off. Without going into too much boring detail, it would mean a different sort of work and in a different area, which would theoretically keep him away from the situations which would lead to him having to work with her. It's not foolproof, but in theory, it we think it will be better.
We are still tossing around ideas about potential moves/transfers, but our options have narrowed since he didn't get the promotion. At least there's no time frame in which we have to figure things out, now. If he had been promoted we'd be scrambling to figure out what we were doing about the house, where we were moving, etc. Even though this means less stress, I think it would have been good/fun/exciting stress in some ways, so there is disappointment.
A vague sense of dread is floating around at the pit of my tummy. Part of the reason for the A was H's "boredom" in his job/life. In short: he hates his job and isn't qualified to do anything else so he's sort of stuck. A promotion would have been something different - and better hours - and more pay. And the chance to move. *shrug*
Oddly, he seemed more concerned about disappointing me than in being disappointed himself when he found out. I am a little disappointed, but I'm also a little relieved. I was feeling more than a little resentful at having to give up my home because of /her/.
Last night I opened the champagne I'd been saving, anyway. We toasted to brainstorming solutions we'd both be excited about and to "Plan B". (There's a long inside story behind that... but let's just say it made us both smile.) He toasted to me being his best friend and having love and support in everything he does. This made me a little sad as my internal voice said, "Well... not everything." I just smiled and let it go.
