Haunted Cadillac
I class vehicles by work potential far more than brand name. A luxury vehicle is a "Cadillac," regardless of brand name. A 2016 Trademarked Cadillac looks more like Mister Surname's padded pickup than the first trademarked Cadillac from the turn of the 20th century. Chauffer material I ain't, so I am okay studying ignorance of the Fine Points of that Five Star Scene. A luxury vehicle is just a luxury vehicle.
Through the twists of too many vehicles in our suburban driveway, I ended up driving the Father-in-Law's Cowboy Cadillac for the four hour commute to the project site. All the same to me. It is a tool, not an image. If it gets two bitches (my dog and I) and a light load to where we need to be, it works for me. So I thought. By the time I got here, I was wondering if Mister Surname's Cadillac is haunted. Even more so this morning. Mister and Missus Surname seem to ridden up here and I feel like they are following me around the house, taunting my inferior social status. I am okay with an inferior social status. Superior social status looks like more work than it is worth to my pragmatic eye. If the in-law's ever forgave me that, I wasn't in the room when it happened. Sigh. . .
Mister and Missus Surname bought this farm in 1965, but it never grew to any more than an item in their ivestment portfolio. This is the first time I have felt their presence up here. It has been an anxiety filled return to work. I am feeling urges to tie pink ribbons on my tools, right after I touch up my roots. Now that I have looked at the sense in writing, it looks downright silly here in this barely habital shack and long neglected barns. No, sir, Mister Surname. I am not invading your Man Cave again. Yes ma'am, Missus Surname. I am taking care not scuff the pumps and pearls you bought me.
Sigh. . . Maybe the isolation factor here is reaching critical stage? Working on it. . .

Could be a lot of factors.... maybe "steam pressure valve release" of all the subtle and not-sublte social disdain of the self-appointed Elite for the rest of us?
Take comfort perhaps from my Polish grandma saying the person who loves the land is the one to whom the land returns. It's a rotten translation, but the meanings don't quite make it through to English... It's not simply possession-type reversion, but also rewards. A good tender of the land is a wealthy person. They did not tend. THus, your work i a wealth they cannot know, perhaps?
No idea what I'm getting at. Too tired to think. But.... Hugs of support from safe puma distance.
For sure I feel my greatest peace when I am tending the land. Ownership is a legal concept that I understand well enough to respect a "No Trespassing" sign, but have never been able to feel. In my strictly personal weirds, ownership is all intellect and no substance.
Put me in a five star resort with plenty of legal tender in my pocket and you will probably find me tending the wild plant that survived the last bout of chemical warfare from the weed warriors. The first time Mister and Missus Surname caught me in that act might be the very day they gave up on their son's choice of partner. Maybe. In-laws seem to be a pretty universal mystery. I am trying to let the mystery be. If I need to know, the knowledge will present itself at godspeed.
My hubby finds it charming that I see a "weed" and say, "ooh, look!" and name it and talk about how pretty it's flowers are. Of course, I saw a bug swarm begin once, and it was caught in a sunbeam, and the light on the little wings was freaking amazingly beautiful, and Hubby liked that too. By this, I conclude he is adopted, as his parents view both such joys as "weird".
The mystery of in-laws is unfathomable. ANd I am someone's in-law. Thus the brain sprain continues.
It's interesting that corporate branding appropriated the Greek word 'logos' to describe their acts of aggression:
"A principle originating in classical Greek thought which refers to a universal divine reason, immanent in nature, yet transcending all oppositions and imperfections in the cosmos and humanity. An eternal and unchanging truth present from the time of creation, available to every individual who seeks it. A unifying and liberating revelatory force which reconciles the human with the divine; manifested in the world as an act of God's love in the form of the Christ.
Logos - Longer definition: The Greek word logos (traditionally meaning word, thought, principle, or speech) has been used among both philosophers and theologians. In most of its usages, logos is marked by two main distinctions - the first dealing with human reason (the rationality in the human mind which seeks to attain universal understanding and harmony), the second with universal intelligence (the universal ruling force governing and revealing through the cosmos to humankind, i.e., the Divine).
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus appears to be the first to have used the word logos to refer to a rational divine intelligence, which today is sometimes referred to in scientific discourse as the "mind of God." The early Greek philosophical tradition known as Stoicism, which held that every human participates in a universal and divinely ordained community, then used the Logos doctrine as a principle for human law and morality. The Stoics believed that to achieve freedom, happiness, and meaning one should attune one's life to the wisdom of God's will, manifest in the second distinction (above) of Logos. The Christian church then extended the Stoic idea of the universal community by claiming the universal nature of salvation and the potential for all humans to participate in it."
