Hate the Holidays

No one will probably even read this....so here goes anyway.  I just feel like every year gets worse for me around the holidays.  I hate it.  I used to absolutely love the holidays and spending time with family....now hardly speak to any of my immediate family except my parents.  They all think they are better than me, all have so much judgement to pass on me.  I  decided months ago that they just don't care about me like they should in an unconditional way.  I always feel unwanted and uncomfortable when I would go to holidays and get-togethers with them so I decided that I just wouldn't go anymore.  I feel much more welcome when I walk into my husband's family's house than I do my own.   I haven't been to any family functions in a long time and today I got an email from my oldest sister telling me that she doesn't like that I have estranged myself from my family and that it is not fair to our parents to feel torn.....geezzzzz I can't even please them by staying out of their lives and not bothering them.....what else can I do?  I don't want to be around them, I really don't.  Its soooo incredibly fake when I am around them.  I can't stand that feeling.  My kids even feel it.  Am I wrong for not mending things?  I'm not ready.  I don't know that I will be. Other than that.  I am here ... surviving.  Trying to make it nice for the kids right now...decorating when I can make myself.   god, I sound like a pathetic chronic whiner.  ewwwwww.

Hey sweetie! I hate the holidays too....the advertisers build it up so much that we all feel guilty if our families are not the kind that are shown on the Publix commercials. I\'ll be glad when they are over with.
Do what makes you feel best...as long as your parents know that you love them. You have nothing to prove to anyone!
Love ya!

Do a camio on Christmas morning and then leave early because you\'re going to a soup kitchen to pass out Christmas lunches or something. You\'ll feel good volunteering. Plus, your family can\'t complain (that much.) We\'re here for ya. I read it. Keep your chin up and hang in there. Holidays are TOUGH. I know.

Hi, No, it\'s not you - it\'s your family and you know it. I had the same issues with my family - I was just never good enough in their eyes; and no matter what I did; they always saw me in \"their eyes\" only, yet my friends and co-workers knew me; and appreciated me for who I was. Do what makes you comfortable; and don\'t feel guilted by your sister.
You should be loved unconditionally, always - they don\'t understand it and probably never will. I\'d be writing more; but right now life has thrown me more complications than I want to share; but I am thinking of you - lots of love, always

I can somewhat relate, but I have decided to concentrate on the blessins that I do have in my life, big and small and most importantly my children. I too have somewhat had to distance myself from my family....although they\'ve been there for me and I love them...sometimes it\'s good to get some breathing room. Have you tried explaining to them how they make you feel? maybe they don\'t realize it. Whatever you do, if they make you unhappy then stay away from them and concentrate on what you do have in your life. Take care and have a blessed day. It\'s a wonderful day to be alive...don\'t waste it focusing on the negative in yoru life.
