Happy Surgiversary to me

I made it. One year out today!
I decided to write in in my journal today because I guess I am feeling a little sorry for myself. Everyone is pretty concerned with other issues so I doubt my little surgiversary would warrant much response but today is important to me so I decided it warranted a journal entry.
I started this journey out on my own. I struggled with kin and country travelled a great distance through blinding blizzards and storms. Was almost abandoned on the highway 3 days after surgery. The list goes on and on. The only thing that God in his mercy spared me was complications. My surgery to this date has been flawless and without complications.
What I have learned. Physically, we need very little to survive. The vast quantities I consumed because I thought I needed them were simply not necessary. Protien vitamins and water first, everything else is a slow second. I am learning to find ways to move. Due to some physical limitations it is not always easy but even small things can add up and make a difference. Emotionally I have learned to forgive myself and start over when I have had a bad day. Each day is a new opportunity. I have learned to accept compliments graciously. I have also learned how to cope with some of my emotional eating. Stress eating is still a work in progress. Keeping healthy foods nearby and keeping bad stuff out of the house is key. So is cooking your way out of trouble. Learning to make your own healthy foods and make good choices is also huge.
It's important for me to look back today at how far I have come and where I am going. This year has gone by so fast. I wish I could do it over again and knew then what I know now. There were so many myths and ideas I bought in to because I simply didn't know. There are some things in this life that every person has to experience for themself as each persons journey is special and unique to them. GBS may be one of those things.
Advice I would give. This is a diet for life, don't let anyone try to fool with you and tell you different. You will be able to eat again one day (maybe sooner than later) and it will be up to each one to use his tool wisely. Also try not to loose yourself. Love yourself enough to be kind to yourself as well as others. Continue to be humble. As Shelly (Eggface) says "Just because the circus has left town doesn't mean the monkey's off your back". Try not to judge, "there by the grace of God go I". Additionally do not stress out over every pound. You will get there. You may not make it to flat out skinny (I probably won't, but I am no longer fat) but you will be so happy and grateful to exceed anything you have been able to accomplish in the past on your own, it really won't matter. Please, do yourself a favor and stay away from the scale. This trip goes from one plateau to the other. So have a happy trip and stay off the scale.
Thats all I have to say, Happy Surgiversary to me and many more, (I) Hope
