I love being patriotic.............if anything 911 brought us all together and out of our shells or any shyness about our patriotism..............I see more flags flown since then than ever before!!! I love it!!!!
You are right. I think since 911 we all are more patiotic. Even before though I was always waving the flag (metaphorically speaking) A friend of mine used to tell me that before I was anything I was an American. And she was right.
I think that patriotism can be seen as both a positive and a negative as history has surely demonstrated. I suppose the one part of it that bothers me is when one says things that exclude other parts of the globe, making oneself seem \"better than\" others, based just on being a citizen of that particular country. In my travels and in my experience of taking care of a multitude of foreign exchange students is this...we are all in the same boat. Everyone experiences pain, love, fear, and we are the same species. While 9/11 was a terrible wake-up call for most of us, as Americans, other countries have dealt with terrorism on a regular basis. It is a terrible thing that humans haven\'t evolved to the point where we can share the planet! It often seems that religion plays a part in this too...and I can\'t comprehend how anyone can believe that killing others is justified by the dogma of their beliefs. Guess I am a raging liberal, but also I am happy to be a part of this beautiful, huge country.

God bless America on it\'s Happy Flag Day... Happiness, Joy and Compassion for all.. So with you on this one Lindamae.. We are all human and have so much more in common with each other than not.. xxx
