Happy birthday dad, wish you were here

Good morning journal, the time is 10:45am,I awakened at around 10:20am,having slept deeply and dreamless for around ten hours. The sunshine we had yesterday is now conspicuous by it's absence, and the day has begun with a dull, grey sky outside, but it is milder than it has been of late.Today,is my daddy's birthday,he would have been eighty six,but as he drowned in 1959,I suppose the celebrations for him are somewhat muted, but for me,it is nice to remember him as always on this his special day.I used to visit his grave when I lived in Scotland, where he is buried, but now I simply remember him in quietness;wish you were here dad,I love you.My mother is buried directly across from him,as is my maternal grandfather and grandmother, along with an uncle and two aunts, they were close in life, and now, even closer in death.I used to enjoy visiting their last resting place, especially when the sun was shining,it is a beautiful graveyard, and I have spent some lovely times there in the summertime, gazing down from the hill upon which it is situated, overlooking the small village where I was raised. It is on special days such as this, that I remember my childhood, although I was only just shy of my fourth birthday when my father died,he was my dad,and I remember him with love,if not actual memory.Yesterday,my wife and I spent a wonderful Easter day with each other, she surpassed herself in the kitchen as usual, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner of smoked gammon, deviled eggs, hot German potato salad, beetroot and pickles. For desert, she had made a banana and coconut custard pie,not exactly the best thing if your diabetic, but we allowed ourselves a special treat,it was my little bit of naughtiness, and I do not apologize for it,....so there!. We remembered the sacrifice of our Savior,Jesus Christ, and the rest of the day was spent together in quiet reflection, and gratitude for each other, and when I finally retired,it was with contentment, and a host of wonderful memories of a lovely day. This morning, the atmosphere of yesterday is still with us,and we enjoy a closeness which belies our present set of circumstances,we can do nothing until we receive notification from the benefit agency of any new award,so we have decided not to concern ourselves with what might,or might not,be until we hear something for sure.Tomorrow morning,I have an appointment with the diabetic clinic, and the formidable sister Riley, who seems to be aware of my secret forbidden indulgences despite my best efforts to look innocent,(note to self;do NOT mention banana, coconut custard pie!). Well journal, this is a short entry today, there is a big soccer game on television at noon that I don't want to miss,so until next time, our spirits are in a good place, and there is a sense of warmth and love in our home;peace, and contentment for what we have go with us.

Scott, my parents and one of my brothers are all buried in the cementary at a little church in south central Kentucky. I have a spot reserved for me their because its a family thing. But I will make the trek to the church to stand before my parents just to chat, to give myself a level of peace. I am sure you sharing a meal and though on your dad\'s bday is much the same. Take care, Bill
