Halsey Responds to Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Controversy
The 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has had no shortage of controversy. On the day of the show's taping, the brand's CMO Ed Razek made transphobic and fatphobic comments to Vogue that left some people quitting the company and many fans boycotting the brand. When the show aired on December 2, Halsey who was one of the live performers, added to the list of people speaking out against Ed's comments.
In an Instagram post timed perfectly with when the show aired the singer wrote, "I have adored the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show since I was young. Performing this year alongside other amazing artists and hard working models/friends was supposed to be the best night of my year." She goes on, "However, after I filmed the performance, some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity."
She then directs anyone who came to her page because they watched her performance to GLSEN, an organization that provides services to help and protect LGBT youth. Halsey ends her heartfelt note with a message to trans people concluding, "We stand in solidarity and complete and total acceptance is the only 'fantasy' that I support."
In the weeks leading up to the show, many fashion insiders including models like Kendall Jenner who walked in the show, have highlighted their support for the trans community and dissatisfaction with Victoria's Secret's lack of inclusivity
