Haircut cravings

Back in the Texas summer of 1995 I had a mysterious (still unidentified) respiratory ailment that was causing distressing levels of cold sweats. During this episode the kids who hung out at my house started passing around an especially virulent strain of head lice which infested my extremely thick, butt length hair. My hair grows fast enough that it hits butt length much more naturally than it stays off my neck. Rather than put my taxed immune system through chemical warfare, I shaved my head.
I was totally unprepared for the sensory shock. No wonder boys like their buzz cuts! The sensations of elements directly on my scalp were brand new to my 41 year old nerve endings. I was hooked! Immediately!
The people around me were traumatized. Even complete strangers. You would have thought my exposed scalp was an attack on mamas everywhere. Reactions ranged from pitchforks and witch burning threats to offers to get the wheel chair. Naw. There was no range of reaction. Just the two extremes with a void in between.
It's just hair, people. Three years later I was once more the icon of feminine beauty with the butt length hairline. Except this time I was far more aware of how stifling hot that enviable mane is.
My last shave was October of 2011. Here in July of 2012, my neck is once more protected from the blazing sun by the grown out buzz line. It is not even 10 am and my hair is already drenched with sweat. Even with air conditioning, it takes days for my hair to dry in hot, humid weather.
Reactions to an exposed feminine scalp have calmed allot, and gained some voice between the extremes, but it is still pretty radical.
Which heat do I react to? My head sure gets itchy from the salt in my sweat.
