Hair Loss

Why do I have to be the freak who has hair loss caused from Plaquenil?  Almost everyone else says Plaquenil is the cure for hair loss, but it is making mine fall out at an alarming rate.  Most people who do experience hair loss as a side effect of Plaquenil say it stops after a few months, but I am guessing I will be the exception to that rule.  And why can't I get a firm diagnosis?  One doctor says I have MCTD and others say that a titer of 1:20 and RNP of 2.1 are too low to confirm MCTD and that I have fibromyalgia...I think that is just the diagnosis they gave me when they couldn't figure it out.  If it is fibromyalgia, why do I get sores in my mouth, run a fever and have a sun rash?  I stopped taking Plaquenil because of the hair loss and questionable diagnosis 5 days ago, and although it was so recent it is probably just a coincidence, but tonight I brushed my hair and the brush wasn't filled with hair like it has been.  Also, my esophogeal issues have returned and so has my eczema.  I feel like I could rip my skin off due to itching.  So tonight I started taking Plaquenil again.  So unfair that I have to choose between feeling like crap or going bald.  I quit taking pain pills a week ago and I have a bad toothache and lower back spasms since, which I have never had before.  I wonder if the pain pills were masking these problems.  I am guessing the back issue is due to weight gain from prednisone, another not so awesome part of all of this.  Why me, why me?  And why can't I be thankful for the hair I do have instead of worrying about the hair I am losing?  Why can't I be thankful that the cause of my pain is MCTD and not terminal cancer?  Why can't I be thankful that I have plenty of food to eat and am getting fat rather than starving?  I am so lucky for all of the gifts in my life.  I live a nice middle class life in America.  My family is healthy, we are all fed and sheltered.  I have a wonderful husband who loves me with or without hair.  How many people around the world would be thrilled with my life?  Even so, right now I am focused on what I have lost rather than what I have left.  I need a new attitude.  Hopefully writing this will get the pity party out of my system and free my mind to be thankful.

might be a good idea to get a second even a third opinion. Most insurances will pay for at least a second. Hugs. God Bless you!
