H1N1

Everything has been going so well that I was thinking this Christmas would top all the others.  My daughter calls to ask if I will be around so she can do her laundry and the girls can visit with me.  Somewhere in the conversation she mentions that she had babysat till that morning keeping a sick toddler for a friend of hers who had an infant in the hospital with the swine flu!  She didn't call it that because the friend only said her baby tested positive to influenza type A, which is the swine flu or also known as H1N1 type flu.  Then my husband looked up the flu to see when it would be safe for her and the children to be among the population. Especially us!   Ten days after last contact before you can be around others!  ANd she had gone to work that day already! She was so sorry, she really thought she was doing a great thing for a friend who wanted to be with her baby in the hospital!  Now she has ruined Christmas for her and the girls!  I am so upset but atleast not crying myself sick over it.  I've got to realize this is going to be ok and just see them another time.  One of my sons has agreed to drop off food and presents at her door so they can still have some Christmas celebration.  I pray all are being careful the swine flu is alive and well ! :  /

I will say a prayer your daughter and her family were not exposed. So sorry. But look on the good side if her and the kids DO NOT come down with it then it will be a good Christmas indeed !! And you will get to see them another day. Keep your chin up ok. All will be well.
Please have a good Christmas and a blessed and Happy 2010.
hugs from your friend in California,

Janette :-)

My Gosh..is it that serious where you are? Here we are taking it in our stride..except for the risk groups with asthma and such. We have had 2 waves of the swine flu here in our area already. One child was sick for about 5 weeks..but he has asthma problems. We a bit older types have been exposed to this type of virus in the late 1970s..so we have immunity and usually are fairly ok even if we get it. I have finally gotten myself vaccinated here, too. As I work with small children and they are the ones that get it the most. My daughter, who is a pediatrician in the Philadelphia area said that the worst wave is ovr now. Many children were ill with all sorts of things at this time..but they all fared well. I AM NO EXPERT..but I wonder if you need to worry so much? Or you could vaccinated just in case..? Just thoughts..I am no expert as I say. Good Luck anyway..and I hope that you can all meet up very sson. Thinking of you and wishing you happy holidays!
