grrrrrrrrrr

Hi everyone .....recently I gambled a couple of times and I'm so upset with myself for doing that.   It started when a very nice girl I worked with (age 48) passed from cancer and a couple of other things happened in my life made me slip.   I'm kicking my ass big time but please tell me that some of you have done the same ???   Is this a normal thing when u quit. I am really beating myself up over this and thought it wasn't going to happen but I was wrong.  Guess I'm back to day one again....sighhhh.

Day 1. Today I will not gamble.
Clean time is wonderful, it really gives you time to focus on your life, the good, and the bad. With or without bumps in the road, an urge/desire to gamble can rear its ugly head, seemingly out of nowhere, add bumps/struggles and our addiction kicks in, nagging us not to focus on today. I know this. I’ve had more than one day one, too. You’re not alone, never alone. I’m glad you’re here to gather strength to begin again. Try to find another tool for your arsenal, something to put into action should another urge take hold. I tell myself, everyday, that I do not have to gamble, because I no longer want to feed my addiction. For some reason, telling myself that I can be kinder to myself, by understanding who I am without fear, makes sense to me now. Today I know I must be firm with myself when it comes to taking care of myself, I don’t have to give up, or give in, to every stupid urge I feel. No means no when it comes to gambling, because that is the very best thing I can do for myself. Firm and smart advice for myself.
Never give up, even if it means starting over.

Relapse is pretty much a part of recovery. I have had many a day 1 as well. It is needed sometimes, it is an indicator that the plan you are working needs to be tightened up. Relapsing does not make your time go away it just resets a consecutive clock and there should be something you can learn from it to fix weak places in your program/relapse prevention plan. It reminds you that you are not cured and tells you that you need another tool in your arsenal.
