Green Smiley Monday
It has been a difficult week but things are looking up. My brother had is left leg amputated below the knee. It is surgery that should have happened a long time ago. We were on edge, wondering if he would survive it but he came through with flying colours. He is still very confused and drowsy with all the pain killers he has been on for the last month. However I think when he gets back to a familiar environment, the fog will lift - at least we are hoping so.
If all continues to go well, I will be going home on Wednesday.
The sun is shining, my sister, nieces and I are going for breakfast so I can smile for awhile!

I\'m so sorry for your brother. It is a hard decision to make.. I remember back 30 years ago, when my brother was 22 years of age, he had a bad car accident. He almost lost both of his legs, as it was he almost didn\'t make it. They thought they lost him on the opperating table..He did survive, but 2 weeks in the hospital, one of his legs wasn\'t taking blood through it, gangrene set in..He had to have his leg amputated..It was a horrible time for our family...He went through hell. He did meet his wife, and married and has 3 beautiful daughters. They all are in their 20\'s the oldest almost 30.. WOW! Time goes by fast.. I\'m glad your brother is doing well. Love & Hugs, Kelly
Marlene, I didn\'t want to tell you about our family\'s experience before they made the decision about your brother\'s leg just in case they were able to save it. My brother inlaw had his leg amputated last January after trying for 7 years to find some way to save it...
He was amazing through it all ,better than anyone expected. He was determined to overcome this and kept a really good sense of humor about all the trials. He named his stump..Stumpy and he and stumpy have become very attached. After about 5 months of one step forward two steps back, he got his new prosthetic and worked so hard to accomplish control over it. He was able to walk his daughter down the Aisle in August. There were many tears and not just for the bride and groom. Now he has gotten hand controls on his car and is able to drive again. His next goal is to be able to ride his motorcycle by next summer. He suffered for so long before he made the final decision to give up his leg. He should have done it 5 years sooner. His quality of life is improved 500 percent. Talk about an imdomitable spirit!! Your brother will come out of this a stronger person. I will keep him and his family in my prayers.
