great weekend
This weekend I took a total of 5 hours of driving to retrieve my oldest son from college to have him with us for my husband's "Citizen of the Year" ceremony and celebration. A reception took place with the Mayor present. My in-laws and my husband's aunts drove in from a few states over to be a part of this event. It was a great distraction from what we've been through lately. It was also so heart warming to see our 3 boys laughing and interacting with each other over the weekend. Just like the old days when life was simple. The night before the celebration my oldest included our youngest, T, to play cards with him and his friends who were here visiting. T jumped at the chance. T is a bit isolated and the interaction and to do something different was just what he needed. Oldest, S, said that T The visit with the family was so awesome. We are very blessed to have what we have. I'm sure my husband's parents were bursting at the seams during the award presentation. What a resume my husband had. The presenter of the town counsel asked him if there isn't anything he hasn't done and he said that he admits he has been busy. "Ask my wife - she's asked me "Do you have another meeting tonight?". I recall one time being so frustrated with him when he decided to take on a President's position at one of the local clubs he was involved in. Not another commitment! I was so angry with him that I really thought of leaving him to get his attention. Our sons needed him and I needed him. I didn't mind him volunteering and being involved but he was involved in more than one organization at a time on top of playing tennis. He overextended himself. Things have since mellowed and his plate isn't as full. Partly because of T. Now he's home helping T with his homework. Yes - "T" is doing hmwk now! I hope it continues. Dad may be helping him a bit too much but I think T may just need the jump start to get himself going..... We decided, with T, not to tell my hubby's family about T's house arrest. Why? I am so glad I didn't tell them (especially his mom) about the court date. She gets very worked up and then projects it onto us, which stresses us out. We're learning. T asked me how could he get away with not telling them about the house arrest? "Wouldn't they notice that I'm hanging around the whole weekend?" I told them they wouldn't notice it and they didn't. T did go off to school today wearing shorts. A bit too early for shorts but perhaps he wants to show off his ankle bracelet. Sigh. A badge of honor, I guess....... I received more information regarding my parent advocacy Washington trip. I'm looking forward to it. Oh - enjoyed the ride back to college with my oldest. This guy - the easiest, easiest, kid to raise is now struggling. The honor student, who has a very mature head on his shoulders, failed last quarter and is struggling with two classes this quarter, too. He's seeing a therapist and was able to erase the previous quarter grades due to his mental state. When we arrived back at his dorm I finished helping him clean his room. Now he can work at his desk. I told him that the room, in itself, will help improve his mood. It was so cluttered and dirty. He seemed refreshed and sat down to do this paper that it due today. He was so grateful for the get-a-way and fresh start. Hopefully, he'll be able to bounce back.
