The water from the hot spring is too hot for anyone to swim directly in it, that’s why you won’t find any “natural” hot springs there. This is a chilled out area to explore, comprised of the old railway station/platform, markets/garden area with lanterns and multiple craft/souvenir shops housed in old shipping containers. Many of the craft shops are only open in the afternoon/evening, and there does not seem to be set trading hours.
In the middle of the city is a 75-meter high (246-foot) carp-shaped mountain that can be reached on foot by crossing the old railway station on Bo’ai Road. Visit Liyu Mountain Park and head to the top for a majestic view of downtown Taitung. You can also just walk around to marvel at the scenery and the historic ruins around the area.
