Great Hike Today
I enjoyed a hike today with a climbing pal of mine. He was hitchhiking his way into Joshua Tree National Park, and since I was going into the park myself I figured I'd give him a lift. He planned to hike up to Queen Mountain to rope solo and asked me if I wanted to join him for the hiking trip. I was feeling really good and energetic today, so I was able to keep up with his pace. It was a really gorgeous day and I felt a sense of accomplishment.
I told my husband this evening that days like today make me feel like I'm actually reclaiming my health. But I never get too attached to the outcome of a particular day because my health situation changes constantly.

I had a very active weekend of climbing with my friends and I felt very good both days. I\'m pretty tired today, but I feel upbeat and positive. :-)
My IBS was somewhat active this morning, but I\'m still trying to stick with the Activia yogurt and also taking probiotics every day.
I was surfing Facebook this morning and found a link to a medical conference entitled \"A Course on Compassion Empathy in the Face of Chronic Pain.\" Dr. Howard Schubiner was one of the guest speakers. He talks about his 28-day program to help chronic pain sufferers and those folks with issues such as Fibromyalgia, CFS, IBS, etc. He feels that the majority of the strange symptoms that we often experience that go unexplained are not actually physiological, but are a \"mind/body\" reaction. He believes the problems related to so many of the mystery conditions should be called Mind Body Syndrome (MBS). Here is the link to his lecture:

I find this very fascinating because I have always thought that my chronic health issues which cropped up the past 2-3 years were related to the emotional events of my childhood. Just when these symptoms appeared, I was having trouble with my family back in CT. I highly doubt it\'s a coincidence!
I ordered Dr. Schubiner\'s book and will try his 28-day program. I have nothing to lose! I will update my journal once I get things started and report my results.
