gratitude

I am very grateful for T's sobriety and the fact that he's not acting like a dry drunk, anymore.  Even the friends are different.  I knew once he got out of this using group he'd be able to find other friends.  He's always had an easy time meeting people.  He's definitely a people person, which is an important trait to have in this world.   Like I mentioned before, I am also very grateful for all of the people God has put into our lives.  Aside from the wonderful families we have and friends (which is the most important thing) we are very, very grateful for all of the ones who helped us and T.  I know some of them are, and were, doing their jobs but many of them went beyond and above their job descriptions.  Some of them weren't in a social work type of profession, but "just" people that came to our aid.  Helping by giving us a phone # or being there to listen and give us support, or whatever - they were there for us.  Simply amazing.   My husband and I were at our friend's house for a Christmas party and we really enjoyed ourselves a lot.  Earlier, before we left for the party, T and our oldest "S" came home and brought Chinese food.  The two of them,  watching a silly show on TV, laughing together, enjoying themselves -together was music to my ears, just like the old days.  A precious moment.  When we got back I asked my oldest why he had called me on my cell (he didn't leave a message) and he said that T had friends over.  He was concerned about leaving him but....thought better of it when he realized the friends T had with him who looked like they could easily be his friends, too.  In other words - they were okay.  And THAT says A LOT.  So things were fine.  We came home around midnight and T was home.  I know One Day At A Time" but this is simply amazing....amazing.   While at the party I met a children's cartoonist.   A "famous" one at that.  He does illustrations for well known original cartoonists for books and other mediums.  I cannot say what he draws or where he lives because I want to protect my identity (it's a small world), but I had to share this .  Being a former preschool teacher (would have LOVED to have him come to our school) it was so neat  to meet him.  Anyway, one of the little girls I sit for is a BIG FAN of one of the famous characters he draws.  He said he'd give me some for her.  Initially, he thought I wanted it for my 2 year old daughter.  No - my "baby" is 17, thank you very much.  So....  I cannot wait to give it to my friend's daughter.  After all, this friend is the one who connected me to that Hollywood producer last week, so it's my turn -hee hee.
