Grateful To Be Alive
Day 5 without a drink --
Today, I'm feeling grateful to be alive and I also have an appreciation for life itself. I learned earlier today that a young lady who grew up with my daughters as a former neighbor of ours was just diagnosed with bone cancer. She is 28 years old, married with a 2 yr. old daughter. We are all praying for her. It is too early to know the long-term prognosis but she is a fighter!!
It got me thinking about how lucky I have been in my life that I haven't suffered any real physical illnesses due to drinking. But it does motivate me to take care of myself and appreciate every day I have.
The way I see it, I have two choices. I can do some good and make some contribution to my family and the world around me with each day or I can live my life drinking away some false feeling of insecurity, life's problems, or some other worthless cause. Today, I choose the former!
