Granddaughter
Lot's have happened, daughter got pregnant, had a beautiful baby girl. then CYS (children's youth services) got into the story. My husband and I had to go to court and get custody of your first granddaughter. At this age we were ready to go ahead and do what we wanted to do with out children. nope it is not happening. now we have this beautiful wonderful little girl in our house. I really wanted to be a grandmother not a mother again. But I will do whatever it takes to give that little innocent baby a loving home. I am not sure if her mother will ever be the beautiful woman that I knew or not. Baby is now 4 months old and she has been in rehab twice. Baby daddy is an addict too. of course they meet at a meeting. but he seamed to be clean for a long time. but along the 9 months of being pregnant we (her parents) find out that this will be his 3rd child. he's been in a lot more trouble than led to believe, etc.... the day my daughter was to go in to be induced, we took them out for lunch. he was sssssssoooooooooo high. falling asleep in his food. saying terrible things to my husband. then he slept while she was in labor. I had to take care of her. ohhhh this was so frustrating.
ok I'm going on and on. I am not sure if I am making sense now. My other gripe is that the authorities don't really do anything about this dug epidemic in my county. From what I have heard, my county is known around the us and the world as the heron capitol of the world. But PA will only pay for the minimum stay in a rehab. (which doesn't work in my eyes) They need to be in longer. then they get out and go to IOP (ok surround the ones that are trying with ones that are not) and meetings (again these people are only there because most of them are court orderd)

I\'m new to this group, but I just wanted to say how badly I feel for you and what your familiy is going through. You are right, heroin has reached epidemic proportions in the PA, NJ, DE and MD areas and not enough is being done to stop it. It\'s in all the high schools and all the suburbs surrounding these states as well. It\'s so common its like the new marijuana.
I did read that the Camden, NJ police have recently implemented some huge political changes that will beef up the force and put pressure on the drug situation there. I hope so!
You are also correct that one month in rehab does not work. It\'s just not long enough to give a heroin addict the tools they need to stop using. First, they must truly WANT to stop, and then, even when they really want to stop, they need help to do it, and it\'s got to be more than one month of help.
My son\'s been doing well in sober living. Seven months clean now! I know he can still relapse anytime, but I read a book called \"CLEAN\" that talks about this issue, and it says that \"time clean predicts more time clean\". In other words, even when they relapse, they are still learning what to do to help them get clean again and build on the amount of time they can stay clean. The hope is that by doing this, eventually, they stay clean for good. This is why we must never give up hope.
Congrats on the baby, I\'m sure she brings you joy even under the difficult circumstances you are dealing with today. I hope your daughter finds her path soon and can be the mom you need her to be.
