Goodwill and HL . Making House a HOME

Today I started w/ the "Farmhouse" look in the kitchen. I went to Hobby Lobby and Goodwill. I love shopping even all by myself. After perusing thru farmouse kitchen pics, I decided that all I will use in the kitchen is galvanized metal, glass, and white. The walls are going to probably stay mustard gold and the cabinets i think will be fine... but may still do a light white wash on them... don't know yet... but the red and black are going OUT. I started today. 

I found exactly what I wanted in cannisters / glass w/ wooden tops at GW. A galvanized tray for them to sit in. The cookies and sugar look great in them. I use glass for the vinegar and oil for cooking. And I use the crock for the utensils still. I found a galvanized tray for the coffee bar and white, one gold and 2 glass mugs all different shapes and sizes like I like them... missmathced. They cups go in the tray. I found the perfect white ceramic creamer and a glass / metal lid cannister for sugar. Of course, missmatched but still in the categories. I found a HUGE glass jar for 4 dollar for the sunflowers to go in. The coffee bar is going to look awesome. I set it up and then took it all down again bc the coffee bar has to be moved... i think... I might get my girl that is helping me to paint the cabinet white. and use it as the coffee bar. It is red. But a quick sanding and slap on white paint and it will look good. The 1940s bread and cannister set I have is going to be painted white and I have stencils and black chalkpaint to write "farm" on it. That will be fun. 

I took down the checkered red curtains and will either make or get some white ones. Maybe even just a sheer.  I am so excited. 

If I want , I can actually take the doors off in front of the kitchen sink and put burlap curtains in front of it. That would be awesome. There is white burlap that will look very cute. I can try it. 

I made a burlap runner for the coffee bar. I still have some things to get rid of in that kitchen cabinet...which is an authentic 1940s piece for kitchens that i bought twenty years ago. It's very cute. And perfect for the farmhouse look. 

Most things I bought at GW and the things I got at HL were all fifty percent off. I can't wait to get up and work on it some more. Yee Haw. And I'm looking forward to getting rid of the old... red stuff. I do have a very pretty red rooster. I don't know if he will stay or not. He might be the only thing that goes into "storage". I do have a few pieces but not much. woohoo... more fun planned for the kitchen tomorrow. 

They can get to the wood floors in August. Oh well. I'm not in any hurry and me and Anna can get a lot of things done between now and then. I am very very happy and living my dream. I love working on a home and a yard. It makes my heart very very very happy to make a house a HOME.
