Goodness...
Well, it hasn't let up at work. In fact, someone who was on maternity leave quit. Lots of projects to get done...
Son never was called back to his job. We told him it's time to look for a new job. Back to the drawing board...
DD submitted her application to 7 colleges. Now we wait.
The dog is still hanging in there. I didn't think he'd make it to Christmas, now it looks like he will.
We had Thanksgiving at Mean Sister's house. Had to pick up my mom to bring her (even though she is capable of driving herself, but we figured it's a clean place to use the bathroom first...). Turns out that we all agreed that we'll be spending Christmas Eve at Mom's (since we can't go away this year).
Thanksgiving: the food was excellent & quite abundant. I had braced myself mentally for dealings with MS. For hours, things went rather well. Then slowly & subtlely, the digs started in. It's kind of like the frog in the pot of water: the water is fine at first, and the frog never notices that it slowly comes to a boil. Then the frog is cooked!
I could go into great detail of everything MS said, did, etc. And I'd ruminated on it for days afterword. Overall, I think I've handled things well. First of all, I never stooped to her level (never do!). Second, I searched for what the truth about me is (found some great Pinterest quotes), and what is important to God (who is infinitely more important than MS anyway). Then finally, I started coming to some basic conclusions: 1 - (based on her criticism of my hair; yes, my hair) it's not her hair; it's not her problem. Whatever her "problem" is with it--it's not my problem! 2 - I have come to the conclusion that no matter how I look, how I act, how I talk, what I cook, what I wear, what I do: she is never, never, never going to accept me as I am. She will even twist the truth or reinvent the past to fit her view of things (regardless of the facts).
I mean, there are things about people that we don't like, but we put up with it & move on because it's not worth our energy. But she doesn't do that. I have no idea why, especially when it's lost her some friends in the past, but whatever. To me, what is most important in a relationship is how we treat others & how others treat us (that's what makes a relationship anyway, right?). I have always tried to treat my sister kindly & with acceptance. I've cheered on her creative endeavors, listened to her when she was sad, advised her when the situation called for it. This was never reciprocated; or in the times it was, it was fleeting.
Bottom line: I'm not trying with her anymore. She knows my number, she knows where to find me. She knows my opinions on things & if she doesn't accept them, then please--don't bother with me. Oh, I'm not going "no contact". I'll still get her a Christmas gift, because it's the right thing to do. But I'm not investing myself anymore.
