Goodbye Facebook.
I have decided to terminate my Facebook account; I had it for 10 years and it was a great run. As of late, I don't like what Facebook has become. I used it to network and make friends. I have found that most people have joined my page because it was popular and not for the intent which I have desired. Most people who had joined my page really did it for the popularity and it really upset me. Also, people have used FB to be slanderous and malicious to people including the behavior of FB itself.
Originally, my sister wanted me to delete my page and start over again due to content and my personal opinions which I have expressed that wasn't demeaning to anyone but expressing myself because I wanted to comment on what is happening in the world today. I was going to follow that advice and decided against it; I wasn't going to water myself down and be fake. I would rather remain true to myself than sell out. On my terms, I am terminating my FB page. This wasn't an easy decision for me; I had to do it because I needed a fresh start and no need to keep my FB account since I rarely am on Facebook these days.
I had found out that 2 people who were acquainted with me have long passed away and I hate being disconnected from that because I was too busy to notice. I prefer to stay connected to people, not the opposite. I love social media, I am realizing that less is better than more. I prefer less these days because I need to do the more important things in my life. I thank Facebook for giving the opportunity to express myself as a person and helped me to realize that I have value and worth in my life. It came at a time when my self esteem and self worth was damaged emotionally and mentally following the breakup with my ex GF and separation from my daughter by my ex. Being on FB had helped me to rebuild my self esteem and grateful for it.
Now, I no longer need FB and desire to do new things in my life. I wish the best for those who prefer to remain on FB and believe that they will find what they are looking for and maintain positively. Now, I am ready for a new chapter in my life and plan on going forward. It has been 10 years on FB and thanks for the memories.

When I first started a facebook account. I made the mistake of keeping it public and accepting nearly all friend requests but that caused some problems so I deleted my account but I missed being able to chat with my two older sisters in real time.
After a few months went by, I started up another account with facebook but this time I made it a private account and I am very picky over who I accept as friends. For me, it's nice being able to keep in touch with family and a few close friends who are business clients or former schoolmates. I get to know who's getting married before getting an invitation and I also find out who died before I read the morning paper so it works out well for me.
God Bless
After a divorce I found DS, but it was two years after that before I could face Facebook. FB really gave me an emotional outlet for my (mostly) political opinions. I have created over a half dozen different pages and groups that I update frequently, and have joined more than 30, even though I can monitor and contribute in only a few on a regular basis. Most of my groups are closed. I ruthlessly block anyone who trolls or otherwise abuses me, or my friends/opinions on FB, and feel quite content with the situation.
I liked DS a lot better than FB until the Great DS Update (of '15?), when all of my pics were lost and many friends evaporated. I like the fact that online friends usually just evaporate, rather than dying on me. Funerals are horrible. Most of my FB "friends" are IRL strangers to me, and I don't PM on the site, so it's like interactive TV with thousands of channels, rather than a chat room.
I will sometime PM on DS, and although usually I wind up regretting it, the anonymity of DS makes it a lot more safe. I almost never need to block anyone on DS, and when I do, it is usually someone I PM'd with. I found that there were a lot of predators PMing people on DS, and there are probably even more on FB, but I'm not interested in finding out the truth about that. On FB, it is harder to hide, because the FB friends who I know IRL are always outing me. For security reasons, I don't keep any friends on both FB and on DS.
Thanks for understanding guys. I just got bored with FB. My sister wanted me to change it because she was fearful of my political liberal views would get me in trouble and be a target due to the political climate in this nation at this time. I decided to delete it because I didn't want to change it further and be something that I wasn't.I changed it at first because I have a daughter and my sister recommended I do so which I did. My daughter probably doesn't have a FB account and tried to find her on there and was unsuccessful. I wasn't threatening people and not being phony. She doesn't know that I deleted my FB account and will tell her when I am ready. I am getting adjusted to a week not having FB in my life. I love my sister, she doesn't understand that you cannot run from people who don't want to change.
I hope everything works out for you. Have you found anything interesting to do yet?
I am working on it. I have to take it one day at a time.
