Goodbye Dear Friend I am so Angry

I received word today that my longlife friend from first grade died.  I spoke with him recently and he was waiting for a liver transplant.  He also suffered from severe emphysema, carried around the oxygen tank. He drank two cases of Coors light beer every single day and drank the hard stuff on the weekends.  He served two terms in Viet Nam as a Marine.  He had a beautiful home. Two gorgeous boys.  He was financially secure and would help any poor slob out. He was the life of the party.  an Irishman that made everyone laugh.  His home was party central where all the drunks and mooches in the neighborhood drank beer and could find a place to stay with him. He had so much going for him.  Beautiful grandchildren, money and a wife that still did not remarry.  Everything.  But no, he drank and he drank. and thatt is all he could do. I AM ANGRY. He lived across the street from a little church that had AA meetings a couple of times a week.  He would make the usual jokes if I suggested to take a walk across and let's go to one. Tomorrow is the Mass and then the  dam"Beer Party" will commence at the local Knights of Colombus Hall .  I am angry. Why, why why dear Dennis, everybody loved you.  You had me, I was your  true friend you said that to me so many times and that you loved me.  You were like a brother to me.  I just wanted you to stay with us here.  I miss your calls to my office, teasing the girls, asking them to get you a job, and all your funny practical jokes.  I miss you so much dearest happy boy.  Pals since first grade.  Your dead at 57. It is not fair.  God is suppose to take care of babies and drunks.  Again with the God shit! DO NOT TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THAT GOD DIETY CRAP. Not now, I will not go along to get along today. No NO Way! I hate alcoholism and what is has done to the ones I love. I am angry.  It will pass, but it is what I am feeling pure rage.

Even though you don\'t know me reenee, my heart goes out to you for this dear man whose life was taken at such a young age! Alcohol is cunning, baffling and powerful! I t destroys people, families, friends and innocent lives every day! Your friend was powerless when it came to drinking alcohol! For many of us that do manage to get sober, there are still thousands out there like your dear friend who chose to drink instead of wanting to try living life sober! God has taken him to an everlasting life where he shall be a peace forever! Take care of yourself, you will recover from this sorrow and I will have both of you in my prayers tonight! Gord.

Ree, I am so sorry about your friend. it is so hard to understand why people do those things to themselves. my daughter lost her home and her children because of drugs and alcohol. She is a recovering addict, but I am frightened everyday of her having a relapse. my grandsons now live with their dads and I rarely get to see them as they are out of state.I was so angry at her and still am, but have had to make my peace with it. I can not control her actions, just as you could not control your friends. Addiction is a powerful and ugly thing that destroys lives. I just pray that God takes care of my daughter and one day she will be okay. Try to forgive your friend, as he did not mean to hurt you. Take care of yourself my friend...Julia

Wow.....this is sad reading about your friend.....the \'something missing\' in his life and his genetic connection with alcohol........who knows why people make choices they do, but choices we all make, though it\'s easier to find an excuse than to face them many times.....
If God takes care of Children and Drunks (or fools, like I am)...perhaps the way He takes care of us is helping us to attain Heaven..........
Who knows why some do as they do? We miss them, but we have to continue on our journey, as difficult as that might be at times....
I hope you are feeling better now, new friend...
