good things
T-Man has earned his high school diploma. Got the word today. He also texted me asking for his SS# today. I knew that meant he was applying for a job. In addition - he did a chore without expecting pay or cigarettes. A good day. One of the school board members that saw our program wants to nominate me for a PTA Helping Hands Award. Also went to the school board meeting tonight and made our plea for a good parent program. We know that some of them aren't for the mandatory program that I mentioned to the Super in an email. One member I could count on to say she wouldn't support it. I've known her for years and when you say white - she says black. If it were her "thing" it would certainly be a different story. Whatever. It isn't up to her or any of them for that matter. It comes down to the wonderful Principal - as usual. But the good news is we came forward and, at least, put it out there. Baby steps. And I contacted the special events person in charge of a local pro ball organization a few weeks ago and we've been playing phone tag until today - finally spoke with her. I would love the organization I'm on the board of (helps families with the cost of drug treatment) to be highlighted at a game. She is also involved in the Suicide Prevention Organization I was involved in. She lost her brother to suicide. He also had a substance abuse problem. I knew she would be willing to help. She says she has some ideas. Tomorrow is my son rheumatology appointment. We'll see.
