GOOD FRIDAY????

Why is this  the day we call Good Friday.  Wonder why they call it Good Friday.  I wrote Hood Friday first, wouldn't that be what we would call today, if a group of people attacked our child and beat him nearly to death and then killed him.  So what is today about that we call it Good Friday.  I would not think of  Wednesday Dec. 30th, 2009, a Good Wednesday.  It was the worst Wednesday of my life.  But yes I know why this is Good Friday, but has anyone ever stopped and thought what happened to Mary's son that day. When you found out whatever day it was you lost your beloved child, do you see it as a good day...NO!  Good Friday is a day that many celebrate when most or all schools are out, a day off from work, a day to shop, we celebrate, but why when we know what happened on Good Friday.  I cried on the day my son died.  I cry all the time now.  So why would I celebrate the day my son died as Good Wednesday.
The ultimate answer to that is:  We consider Good Friday, today, as Holy, Special Day. A day that  begins our future.  A day that begins our hope of eternal life.
We know that this is the day Jesus died for us on the cross, but that is the day also that Many weeped as she lay on the ground feeling this horrible pain we feel in our body, our soul, our minds.  Good Friday is not a good day for Mary, yet we the christian's make Good Friday a Special Day.
Do we forget that Mary lost her son this day many years ago.  How can we forget. We don't forget our DAY.
Truthfully, I can not find this day a Good Friday any way it could be written about.
Good Friday is the day that Mary saw her son Die.   Until my son left this place I, we call our world, I like everyone went about on Good Friday as a holiday, a day off from work.  A day to do what I wanted to do, shopping for Easter, doing things with my kids, it was a happy day.  It was a day of play.  It was a day, that I looked forward to.  I do not see this day we call "Good Friday" a special day.
For Mary, like us that was the worst day of her life.  Mary's son Died.  So wonder why we call it Good Friday.  If someone said to me the day my son died. "This is a Good Wednesday", I probably would punched them out, at least they would have gotten "The Look" between my tears and pain.
We know as Christians and I know there are different views on DS about each belief's but since I am writing from my belief's I know that Jesus had to die on this day.  I know it was to be, so that someday when my life ends, I will be in Heaven.
I know that Jesus suffered much much pain on Good Friday, and Mary suffered grief like something she had never felt before like we now feel.  But we know why it happened and we know it gives us hope for the future and we know that now where our beloved children are that have gone on ahead of us, But so did Mary but it did not take her grief and pain away, Mary is you, me, Mary can't stop what is happening to her son anymore than I could stop that horrible cancer from taking my son,  or that person driving drunk one day, or whatever horrible thing that happened to our child the day they left us for Heaven.
But without this day happening many many years ago, we would not have the hope we have today of seeing our children again.  We have the peace of knowing that our children are safe, happy, loved like never before, healthy and one day we will be with them, Jesus and God and for that I am thankful for that because I know that Jesus died for me on the cross, and when I leave this world, I will be with my Jesus and and loved ones forever.  This day gives us this hope.  The Day we call Good Friday.
So as our belief's tell us that we know that if this day had not happened, then we would not be able ever to see our beloved child again, so for this day I am
thankful for. We know that on this day was the beginning of a future for our children, our loved one.  This is the day the Mary felt the pain  we feel, that she had to endure for us, for our children, for our wife, our husband, our mother, our father, our brother, our sister.   This day began our hope for all eternity.
But why do we still call this day Good Friday, I ponder.  A day full of pain, a day full of tears, a day a mother's heart was ripped apart,  "Good Friday" the day that Jesus died, the day Mary's child died.  A day like us that when our child died.  Mary felt our pain and we all feel Mary's pain."
"Good Friday" is that really what today is?  Not to me.   Today is the day we celebrate Jesus, Mary's child being beaten, spit upon made fun at and  died on the cross for us and Mary felt her whole being, her whole world torn apart, I watched my son as he was being tortured from the horrible pain of cancer.  It destroyed his body, his life, caused unbearable pain, then he died and I felt the pain Mary felt when she watched her son die for us.  So as we go about our day today, making our plans for Easter Day, shopping, being with our children still here, we need to stop and think of Mary and her son Jesus, this was not a good day for them.  We should remember that this day is the day Mary and Jesus felt such horrible pain just like the day our beloved one left us.  Maybe we should take a moment to think of Mary's pain as her beloved child died and her heart was broken into a million pieces that day.  But we also remember that but for this day, it was for you and for me.
GOOD FRIDAY!  WHY DO WE CALL THIS DAY 'GOOD FRIDAY"

I\'ve asked the same question, and before Kala\'s accident too. My love to Mary, one mother to another, on this day of great sadness and great spiritual meaning. Bless us all, GREAT SPIRIT OF LOVE, who\'ve suffered the loss of a child with the knowledge that we will be in their presence again.

Wow, Sandi, that is a very powerful journal entry. To tell you the truth, I never really thought of the pain that Mary went through...to see her son being tortured must have been excruciating for her. I was raised Catholic and my father was pretty strict. For us, Good Friday was a day of great sadness. We were not allowed to watch TV, listen to the radio, go to the movies, be with our friends. We had to reflect on the death of Jesus that day. I was a very good Catholic as a child and I did exactly what my Dad told me to do. Easter was very special to me because there was such joy after such pain. The thing is, it was always focused on Jesus and his suffering so I never really paid attention to Mary. My belief system has changed a lot and I no longer consider myself a Catholic. There are two things I miss, one is singing the hyms and the other is the ceremony invovled with each special event in our lives. Catholic belief and worship is so centered on ceremony and sacrament. Your journal entry has brought back my memories of those Good Fridays with my father and attending the stations of the cross at church with black sacks covering all the statues in the church and the altar barren and devoid of all its white. The church was very sad and the service made you feel the suffering. Then, going on Easter was such an amazing experience because everything was beautiful and new again. There were flowers all over the place and while linens and the priests wore gold garments. We would sing the beautiful hyms and people would be so happy and so friendly. I really do miss that part of the Catholic tradition and it has been good for me to remember it today. Thank you....Love and Peace, Anne

I forgot one more thing...you had to fast on Good Friday, you were not allowed to eat anything...Every Friday in Lent you would eat fish, no meat and then, on Good Friday, you could not eat anything. As an adult I understand this better. A small sacrifice to mirror the huge sacrifice of Christ....The Catholic tradition does get the whole Good Friday thing....

Thanks for reading my journal. I am not catholic but married to a former catholic. I do know that Mary is held in high regard in the Catholic Church. I too would have never looked at \"Good Friday\" this way either too if I had not lost my son. I know things get named for this or for that, but to really realize which I have before felt even before my son died, that the Mary went through such horrible pain as I said like we do ourselves now. But I never thought about this day be called \"Good Friday\" and the meaning of it is because of eternal life. But as I wrote the day my son died would never be called a Good day. Although I know he is in Heaven, he is so missed by him mom. Love to you all.Sandi

I think we\'re all in agreement with thoughts of \"Good Friday\". After my son passed the day had more meaning........Hugs, Pat

I\'m not catholic, so I never gave it much thought. The year my son Ryan passed away was the night of good friday. His sister, my daughter Erica found him laying on the floor, next to her bed, she had 2 friends over that night, and he was talking to them as he was laying down, facing the floor, above my bedroom. Good Friday, easter weekend turned into my worst weekend ever. The thing about , Good friday it is on different weekends every year..My son turned into an angel on April 15 2006, 4 years ago Easter Weekend. It hasn\'t fallen on that weekend sense.....YA!! April 15th Tax day too...Easter use to be my favorite Holiday, with the Pastel Colors, the smell of spring, the new spring outfits, the easter basket wrapped in beautiful colors, the smell of the easter lily\'s...Awww, they smell so good...After my son past on Easter weekend, I was so angry, and sad, I cried when I smelt easter lily\'s...The other day I walked into some easter lily\'s and I just had to smell them, the smell was so cleansing, so sweet, I walked away with a smile on my face... Some how your tears and saddness, turns into love and happiness!! I never believed in a million years, that I would smile on easter again. Its like the paradox in life. Just like the Paradox in the \"St. Francis Prayer\".. I know Ryan is in heaven too, just like your precious Son.. Love to You, Kelly

I was raised as a Catholic, and in school they asked this question. We were told that on this day everyone got absolved of their sins through sacrifice, so we should celebrate that freedom.

At the risk of alienating my Christian friends, I must say I do not believe in appeasing gods with sacrifices, and I don\'t want anyone dying for my welfare. I think you are right that the suffering of the mother figure in this story over the loss of her son is ignored in modern Christianity in the celebration of the gift of sacrifice.

Personally, I don\'t think much of any religion that ignores women or relegates them to an inferior status. To me it\'s a good measure of how much truth or how little there is in a religion. Women are the equal of men, and any religion that does not embrace that truth is not a religion that I would respect.

It is a unique journal entry, and I\'ve no idea why they chose the word, \"Good\" to describe such a distressing event in biblical times - but I think it must mean the sacrifice for all - you and me, and everyone else living, God was willing to sacrifice his son for us to live, for the good and glory of the love of Jesus and God. Faith honey - we have to have it - we have to now talk to God, more than ever - try to pray, pray for your spirit to be separated from everything else - anything, or person distressing you - and see if you find a benefit of that prayer. Allow God to come to you alone with your own personal tragic confusing event - and let him guide you towards healing. Sorry about the IM this morning - my computer froze on me and I spent much of the rest of the day feeling awful. The sooner I have this surgery, the better I will feel. Here for you, always - I will never fully understand why God chose Shaun, but I also know God knows this pain we carry from our losses. Easter, is going to be very low key - it\'s a sad time to have to remember family gatherings that were fun - and odd now for me - I had so many holidays at my sisters house where everyone would go, and none of us knew that 2007 would take three of them. Rest,
journal, and grieve - love, and blessings always
