Good bye Data
On Thursday, our son called and asked if we could go to Edmonton as their dog, Data, was failing and would be going to the vet. We all knew what that likely would mean. His wife Tiina got Data when he was 6 weeks old and had him for 15 years. He was her baby. He would 'sing along' when Andrew and Tiina sang to him.
We were correct. The vet said there was nothing else he could do for Data. So with heavy hearts, they had Data put to sleep. The only other time I have seen my son so distraught was when Lisa died. He stayed with Data until the end. And it is Lisa's Angel Date on the 1st of December. Just too much to comprehend. This time last year, Lisa was on life support and we were hoping for a miracle. I believe in miracles but we didn't get one that time.
So to get our minds off things, Andrew went to work yesterday and Joe, Tiina and I went shopping. It was not really much fun because at every turn, I saw things that reminded me of Lisa and how much she loved shopping for everyone. We did get a pair of pjs for my granddaughter - her mum always bought her pajamas so she would have a new pair to wear on Christmas morning.
We came home this afternoon and I cried for most of the 3 hour drive.
I know they made the right decision for Data but there is another gap in our family - not as horrendous as losing Lisa but sad nevertheless.
