"God is GREAT".
That's my favorite movie line... The "Out of Africa" scene is where her farm manager says this as her world is falling apart.
While I'm not having a disaster, these words are ringing in my head today... my friend at work is being "fired" today. She'd already given her notice, was asked to stay on until someone was hired, informed the corporate manager that she was leaving an hour early Friday (which was originally supposed to be her last day), and the manager got pissed off and told her she's done today.
What this means for me? Not much. But my friend has been a wealth of information on issues happening at the office, helped me understand decisions better when they made no sense (and vice versa, which happens often). So I'm basicially going to feel a little isolated. But maybe that's a good thing. By being clueless and isolated, I'll have the opportunity to focus more on my personal things - finances and schooling.
I met with the financial planner yesterday. Yes I'm going to have to pay taxes. No, we don't know how much. The planner thinks it's only going to be around $1000. MAN, that seems low to me. So we talked about investing. She wants to put it into an account that will allow me to pull it out when I need it to cover those taxes. But after I left and thought about it (I didn't invest yet because I wanted to do this slowly), I realized that this may not be wise for me. For one thing, there's the fiscal cliff, the Greek debt crisis, the craziness in the stock market, word of another recession coming. Stuff I already figured would happen. But if I invested right now, I'd also get hit with fees to withdraw and probably lose money as all these things come to a head.
So I called the planner last night, left a message that said to go ahead and start the retirement account paperwork but I'm going to wait on the rest.... save the fees, keep the majority of my money safe elsewhere for now.
I truly believe that when things don't work out it's because God has a bigger plan. I have FAITH in that. And if my experiences this past summer have anything to do with that, whatever that plan is, it's gonna be HUGE. LATER!
