God has a sense of humor

Finally decided to go and check out an AA meeting. Found one at 12 noon in a town nearby. Took the day off work, fretted all morning, but finally got in the car and made it there. There were people hanging out in the parking lot of the church the meeting was scheduled to be held in. Sat in my car observing to see which door people were entering. After a couple of minutes, finally pulled my big girl panties up and got out of the car and approached an older gentleman to ask where the TGIF meeting was being held. He graciously explained to me that the meeting had been cancelled because of a scheduling conflict with the church's women's gardening club. I explained that this was my first meeting and asked if there was a phone number that I could call to assure that the meeting was being held as scheduled. He said this was a very rare event and asked where I normally attended meetings. When I explained that this was the very first meeting that I had ever attended, he was so upset. He spent the next fifteen minutes talking to me about how meetings were run, where other meetings were held, which were probably best for women and beginners... When I went to leave, he took my hand and offered me a phone number to call if I needed to talk to anyone and asked me to please come back. It was such a warm and welcoming response that I almost cried. My new friend's name is Jerry and he was awesome!!! He was not into the internet "stuff" :-)!! Said he was sober before the internet was invented!!!! Made me smile!!!!
