Goals for 2009

I thought I would do it this way because I do not like the fromat on the goal thing. 1.  Lose the weight I gained after chemo.  Was 12 pounds, probably more after the Holidays.     I will do this by eating healthier and excersising more.  This will also help me control my diabetes. 2.  Get back on track with my excersing.  Got off a littlel during the Holidays. 3.  Get organized.  I say this every year, but I never quite make it.  I need to clear out a lot of junk.  Maybe get a storage unit. 4.  Buy a new car.  I am waiting for my voucher from the State of Texas.  I don't know if all the states are doing this, but they will give you a $3,000 voucher to put down on a new car if your car is 10 years old or older.  Believe me my car quialifies.  There are other stipulations, that I should qualigy for easily.  The purpose is to get older cars off the road. 5.  Buld my Avon business to the point that I can quit my part-time job. 6.  This one is more of a wish.  I would love to buy another house.  Something a little larger.  Unfortuneatly with the forclosure rate there are many good deals out there.  Some of the ones I looked at online it seems I could live in more cheaply than this one, and larger too.  The reason it is so clutter is that I don't have the room to put things.  AAAHHHH.  Just a dream. 7.  Quit smoking.  This is the hardest of all.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. That is all I can think of for right now.  Wish me luck. Anita

I think your goals are set to be very attainable!!!! As far as the smoking goes; everyone is so different and I guess you just have to see what works for you. Maybe if you ask your doctor he/she can give you some good advice. I know of several people who just weaned themselves off of them gradually. I know of people who have just quit cold turkey because they felt it was time.....then they drank lots of liquids to flush the nicotine out of their system. I quit years ago........back in the 1970\'s and did it cold turkey but then I hadn\'t smoked but 2 years or so, so I don\'t think I was really addicted to the nicotine as much. I felt is was a great relief to not worry about my health any more and I had my hands free to do so much more!!!! Hope this helps some.....you can do it but it will take keeping your mind occupied on other things which isn\'t always easy but doable. I wish you the best that you can quit easily!!!!!! If it were me and I had smoked a long time I would opt for something to help (medicine or patchea) to help with the nicotine.

Yes, I do need help with it.

I took down my Christmas decorations today and cleaned out a couple of kitchen cabinets. Took out a set of dishes I wasn\'t using and reorganized. So that is a start.

Good luck with your goals - I\'m working on the too much clutter one. I\'ve been cleaning out stuff the entire past week. I think as my kids moved out they left their less important junk just to make sure I remember them. Goodwill got a lot of donations this past week.

I\'ve never smoked so can\'t comment on that but regarding diet - after I finished chemo I asked the doctor what can I do to improve my chances for survival. He said eat well and exercise - that\'s all the motivation I needed. I\'ve kept off all the weight I lost while I was so sick and I\'ve also lost an additional 10 lbs. I got a referral to a dietician and set about to learn more on healthy eating. (I am at 120 lbs. now) In addition I exercise (swim) about 3 times a week. I\'m going to do more exercising in 2009. I really feel great now and if eating blueberries and broccoli can stay off OVCA again, then pass the broccoli. Best of luck,

Janet

I have blueberries in my cereal every morning. I do eat broccoli alot, and also spinach. We have spinach salad all the time. I also take ginger and co-q-10. I do water aerobics and Yoga. I did get a little off track with the Holidays and also some car problems, but I will get back on immediately. I feel so much better when I excersise.

Best of luck with the goals.. I like the one about moving as this could help with the other goals.. decluttering and getting organised would be easier.. You could lose weight with the exercise and stress of moving.. and fulfil a dream at the same time.. Great news about the DIL .. Best of everything to you xxx

I was a heavy smoker for 25 years. I have been free of them for 7 years. It was VERY difficult to quit, and stay quit. I tried everything to stop even Nicotine Anonymous. I wound up in the hospital in 2001 with asthma and pneumonia. I was scared into quitting. I hope you can stop before any ill effects show up. I highly recommend both yoga (which you already do) and trying a group like Nicotine Anonymous. Although I didn\'t stop while going to those meetings, I did learn a lot and met very supportive people.
