Go Ahead, Blame Biofuels (for food prices...)
I'm giving you a link to this very interesting article about the link between the big hurrah for biofuels and the rising cost of groceries. An entire host of articles like this one are available from Baker's Creek Seeds (www.rareseeds.com) under their Compaign Forum. Along with interesting articles such as this one, there are many articles about Genetically Modified and Engineered crops. Baker's Creek sends me a newsletter each week or month (don't remember which) giving me the highlights of several articles. My goal is to continue to educate myself AND grow heirtage/hereloom plants so that I can save seeds at the end of each season. I love the idea of self-sustainability here on my farm, and that's really why I'm raising chickens now. (And, I must say, the noisy girls are rather active today! It's peep peep peep all day long and they've discovered their wings which are nearly completely feathered! WOW! It's really amazing! OK, here is the article link: http://www.thecampaign.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1192 Enjoy! xo Cj

Go Cj, that sounds so cool. I am glad you are enjoying your new feathered friends.
hugs
Wow, you\'ve got the plan for everything. Sounds like the chickie girls are doing great too, growing and all.
Hope you have a good day.

i can\'t believe every day how much mine have grown and feathered. they eat so much they are like little pigs with feathers! lol
Mine too, but mine don\'t have feathers and they look more like children but they act like pigs.
Keeping one educated is the only way to go!
Biofuels are what I like to refer to as reactionary solutions, ask my older kids, they have heard this speech many times. When you have people that scream Global Warming, or Ice Age Coming or the sky is falling or what every, they get people all scared and they then get to push their agenda, and people will follow anything to save the planet or what ever, they react without true discussion and well thought out solutions. The truth is that many of these solutions, like Biofuels, will actually cause newer and greater problems as we are starting to find out. I for one would love the cheap fuel, the cheaper the better, but not at the expense of starving people. Many do not agree with me, thats ok, I dont have the foresight to save the world either, but I do know that, as CJ stated, that doing as much research as possible allows me to make the best possible decisions on what I do and fairly quickly exposes a lot of things I would not have thought about, Biofuels is one. Follow the money trail, it usually never lies. Biofuels, as one small example had a red flag raised with me back when one day I woke up and the state of Texas had 10% ethanol in all gasoline. I kept waiting for the price of Gasoline to drop, if it all works the way they say, a 10% reduction in the amount of gasoline that the sate of Texas uses is a lot of gasoline folks; it should have had some sort of positive effects, none, notta, nothing. OK, now I am ranting LOL
I don\'t read about things like how to save the planet because I think that it\'s too late to start now. If people wanted to save the planet, they should have started a very long time ago. But, as I heard someone say once, it is in our human nature to eventually destroy ourselves. I guess everybody\'s got something different to say about it. :) Good for you, Cj, for living off the farm. I think if things had have kind of stayed that way, we wouldn\'t have to worry about all the damage we\'ve done to the planet.
I went to rareseeds.com and I think it\'s wonderful! Wow, imagine planting the same stuff people planted a long time ago! That\'s cool! I can\'t wait until my catalog arrives!
i ordered a catalog too. thanks for thew site!
