Glad we did it, glad it's over

It's one thing to get up and speak in front of a group of people and it's another to stand up ~ in front of a big group about an uncomfortable topic with a lot of tension in the air but we did it.
God love my husband.  He says he's not nervous about getting up and speaking in front of a group (and I believe at work he isn't) but in front of city council (made of some friends), a room stuffed with fellow citizens, police officers, fireman, news people with cameras, friend who have a different opinion, he was a wreck.  I wrote up something that he made some changes on ~ so he was well aware of what he had to say (he had the paper in front of him to read) but then left out words, inserted others, read my lines, and was shaking like a leaf.  It would have been better had I read it because I wasn't nervous - that much. Well, a little.  On the other hand, he wanted to do it and I am glad he wanted to be a part of it so I guess I shouldn't even "go there" ~ especially since he initially didn't even want to go the meeting.
The meeting was packed because the city wants to eliminate 1 to 3 officers.  Our town has a great reputation for safety and, needless to say, the citizen's were not happy at all.  Fortunately, it was civil (no surprise with a room full of officers) but uncomfortable. The detective that asked that we go to the meeting spoke for a long time. He listed all with the arrests and the story behind them from mid 2010 and all of 2011.  Obviously, he a point to make ~ that our officers are busy and can't afford to lose any more.
J didn't come home last night.  He is starting to take the liberty to go out after he's uses the car to paint at our local art studio.  I texted him and told him to come home at 1 and he said he would.  Not.  I know he was most likely drinking too much so it is good that he didn't drive. What bugs me is we didn't give him permission to use the car later.   ARGGhh......

What? Is your vacation already over? Or are you still going to go? I\"m confused!
At any rate, glad your husband took the Big Gulp and did the talk. I don\'t believe anyone but you listens that closely to every word, so I\'m sure he did a good thing. And definitely a brave thing. It\'s nice that citizens can speak out on this matter. Our town is just about too big to get heard at meetings (100,000) so you are lucky you get a voice and I\'m so glad he used the opportunity.
My husband had back to back talks Mon and Tues as well, but his are more in the teaching realm--to Dept of Health in the capitol, and Bar Review course for aspiring lawyers. That\'s this week, and he\'s worn out already. I told him he needs to get more physical stamina thru exercise, thereby using my prerogative to nag that spouse.
Yes, with a sigh, I guess it\'s good that J doesn\'t drive after drinking, but too bad. Of course, he knows you wouldn\'t give him permission to drink too much! So what can he say? For him, it\'s all hand in hand, I imagine, and he also may not plan to drink too much. We forget the conflict that goes on in the person\'s mind when they really wish they had more control than they do. Not that I would condone what he does, either....I\'m a mom too!
We just had several warm sunny days, but today was cloudy and drizzly; sure could feel the difference in energy. But it was a nice break while it lasted.
I keep getting reports from an old h.s. buddy who\'s wintering in L.A. and am getting really tempted. Can hardly wait to go to Palm Desert next month.
