Getting settled in
Aloha from Maui!
We are still getting settled here... both vehicles have arrived safely and all our household goods finally made it. We are still unpacking bins and boxes here and there. For the time being we have been sleeping on the bed provided by the landlord because our bed is not yet set up and we still need to buy a box spring for it and perhaps a frame. The bed here is rock hard and only a full size bed, so it's been difficult for my pain, especially since my husband flops around all night like a fish out of water and he bangs into me.
I'm sore all the time from the unpacking. But still try to find time to go to the beach once a week. We live up inland away from the water (and away from town) and we have to drive through crazy whiplash winding roads to get anywhere. I've always dreamed of living in the country and it's why we made it our goal to move off of Oahu, but I don't know if I can ever get used to these whiplash roads every time I need to go somewhere. I may be looking at another part of the island or at least straighter roads in the future LOL.
Other than that, it's absolutely gorgeous out here. Very quiet, birds chirping, fruit trees around the yard, and cattle and horses can be seen grazing the neighbors yards. Much better compared to whatever I'm used to listening to which is urban noise: neighbors arguing, music blaring, someone flushing the toilet or showering, kids screaming, traffic, etc, etc, etc. You can't even hear yourself think in that environment!
On the down side... lately I've been having headaches and loud ringing ears pretty much on a daily / nightly basis. I don't know if the 2 are related or not. My front tooth which I had a filling "fixed" right before moving is also still bothering me daily. AND my nasal spray for allergies expired (and I can't get an appt till mid June) so I'm not sure if this contributes to my headaches, but I'm sure it doesn't help.
We are doing a house-share situation. Only under the condition that the landlord agreed he is living here temporarily till he finishes the cottage in the back where he will then move into. And then my mom will move in with us (because she will need the stand up shower he is using) otherwise we will have to move out if he can't get it done in time. The landlord is a fairly nice guy, he's in his 60's and kids all grown, divorced or separated (she doesn't live with him). The 1st few days he was very lectury and tried to micro manage everything I did down to what food he thought I should be feeding my cats and how much he thought I needed to let them play outside, etc. He even grabbed my blind cat and literally shoved it in a dog's face because according to him it was the best way they should make friends (it was the neighbor's dog)! I thought I was going to knock him out!
Anyway, he's doing better now with boundaries and such and has back off a little. Thankfully! Otherwise, I wouldn't bother unpacking!
My mom's health has been up and down still. She will see the orthopedic surgeon for her follow up on the 1st or 2nd week of June. We will find out what the plan is for her 2nd knee replacement. Or even if there will be one. She is eager to move back to HI.
Hubby is trying to plan out his itinerary for visiting his folks in Virginia June or July. Plus cramming a sign language class in DC, which he does every summer. I usually try to come with him, but I haven't recovered from the move yet... plus we've spent so much money on the move and he isn't getting paid this summer (he usually teaches a summer class, but none this time, so we're on my income alone right now), it just wouldn't be wise.
That's the update I have for now. More later. God bless and take care! Love you all!

Congratulations on the move, sounds like a nice place. Wishing you much health and happiness...hugs, Sadie
Your new place sounds wonderful (minus the winding road and resident landlord) I hope the peacefulness helps with the stress.
