Gas Lighting
During my amnesia therapy, it was widely suspected that Hubs and his birth family are major league gas lighters. Vehicle yaddahs are the place where I believe I feel it the most. Way back when Hubs was just a cute neighbor, my being a female engineering student was a turn on for him. A year or so into the marriage, the water pump broke on our car. Based on prior conversations, I expected him to take the infant from my arms so that I could fix the car. Instead he "manned-up" and sponsored a week from hell which left the baby and I cowering in a corner while he . . . went manly? A year or three later, I was working city fleet maintenence, driving and working on every type of vehicle in city service, while hubs and his father declared me incompetent to drive their pick-up trucks. That part of our marriage has been and remains a puzzling phenom.
I mark the most recent round as starting with the dispatch of his father's nursing sugar mamas. The head nurse got his mother's caddilac. Nobody loved it, anyway. The second nurse wanted his father's luxury pick-up. Trigger city. . . Add in the bureauratic maze of attempting to transfer car titles when the owner is not available to sign and the my gentle poet once more turned into an irrational raving maniac. Despite his claims of innocent perfection, I believe he is still raving.
I left Texas in the least popular vehicle in the family fleet in hopes of not stirring the man clan testosterone. It is the pick-up truck hubs and eldest son bought in a manly ritual I kept as far from as physics would allow. I am in the habit of naming the vehicles I drive. I call this one, "Boy Toy." Boy Toy spent more time in the driveway than on the road until I used him in my covert get-away. The cover worked until the registration came due for renewal this month. Always something with cars, huh? The renewal process is greatly complicated by the 1800 miles between the vehicle and the bureauracrats who hold the validating sticker. It is further complicated by the fact that my name is not on the registration. The literal sticky has met our domestic sticky and turned into the most brutal topic of his visit here. I feel like I am swimming in the wake of the Exxon Valdez which spilled and became my father-in-law's icon around the time I nearly divorced the entire Exxon family in 1989. I reunited with hubs, but in my mind, the FIL is still the Captain of the Valdez, even after death. I can rebuild a scrap vehicle more efficiently than I have been able to discuss the details of renewing the registration on Boy Toy with my testosterone pumped poet. In my own strictly personals, the only time I like pick-up trucks is when I have a mid-sized load to haul. They aren't good for much else. Let the tool fit the job. I don't park my personal image in the driveway.
In my strictly personal psycho baggage car, I have a shitload of psycho kinks from the "non-traditional" aspects of being a natural engineer with organic teats. Itty bitty ones too small to sag, but capable of producing milk, nonetheless. The chaotic din of those puppets in my head are in what I call, "The Dumb Broad Show." There is zero doubt that my dumb broad aspects show up mightily in this oft-gaslighted series of events. As much as I would love to surgically remove the ditzy bitch and her entire supporting cast, I am stuck with her.
At present my reflex is to give Boy Toy back to the name on his registration and head to the watersheds on foot. Alas, the name on the registration doesn't have the time in his busy schedule to drive back to Texas.

Arfie, in that situation, my feet would agree with yours and start padding the scenic route...
Tho' I was raised doing my car maintenance, my loving spouse will still not let me even change a dang air filter. Really? Really. We had several screaming matches early on, before I finally said, "This is a penis thing, right? YOu just can't be seen not knowing how to fix your car, even if you can't!" and he was stone cold busted. I've simmered down over the years to a gentle steam about this issue. He knows not to mess with my knives, I let him have his stupid penile compensation exercises with whatever vehicle we own (I am co-owner but don't drive, savor irony, but that's my tic b/c of my inner jibber jabber).....
Long story short? If you need to rest those feet, PM me, okay? I'm in central Virginia, which is more or less-ish on the way between the East Coast of the US and Texas. Ain't fancy digs, what with residual damage from the mom and her brain tumor stuff, but it's clean, private, bug-free, has a door that locks out the world, makes a good cave, Pumas get that need to find a den for a night.
Paw-bump of gentle support as you sort... If I overstepped, I apologize.
Ah, the value of a car in one's own name.
Well when my father died almost 30 years ago, I inherited his beautiful newly bought Crown Victoria (about the only new car, and by FAR the fanciest thing he'd ever bought). My mother refused to drive it (part the size, even more because my father bought something new and expensive).
So...it became mine. Eventually the spark plugs needed replaced. My ex had rebuilt his motor cycle engine and I'd never done more than change the oil...
I don't remember why, but we too got into a huge fight over it, and not being married, and it being my car...I told him to get his hands off of it. ....And I learned to change the spark plugs (which are surprisingly difficult. My small hands actually were able to do it easier...but a tight fit, unless I wanted to take off the air filter. Later, with my Honda, it took about 3 minutes.)
And what IS it with guys popping the hood of a truck and standing around with beers looking at the engine.
Yup, it's there. Didn't move. Still there. Ooo, it's got WIRES. Anyone think that they might be connected to spark plugs?
In any case, my sympathies.
WTF ... At my age of 63, and probably for the rest of my life...I sincerely doubt I will Ever understand the male testosterone 'car/truck' insanity/self-ego-identity crap. I don't understand your 'male's issue' with registration and the penial crap....What I do understand is that you seem to be stretched between two places and need to find one Just For You...Good Lord when will you find some peace Arfie...time to heal your pain, your losses in the last several months....not an easy move to make for sure!
Best to you Arfie...what ever your road, May It Be The Road Less Traveled, to bring healing to your soul. ml
*****I do know, most states have online registration...done with a few clicks....
The state inspection is doubled with the registration in Texas. Getting government inspectors to agree with one another is. . . A hunt for the right desk? A wild goose chase?
Done in the middle of a domestic tit-for-tat skirmish? Owzie. . . Does that qualify as mixing idiocy meds?
Update:
The residence upgrades are near enough done that the end of project volunteers have arrived. 3 men and 2 women. They are collaborating on the need to move the TV cable. I am in the most junkiest corner of the junk room, taking care to have no opinions any of ^it^ beyond, "There is more than one way to adapt a cable."
Committees. . . . Proof that none of us are as stupid as all of us.
